Default 8BA engine, '55 Ford OD transmission ?

Can a '55 Ford 3 speed w/OD transmission be adapted to work with an 8BA engine. The engine is in a f/glass '34 with a non-stock frame the has been adapted to the 3 speed 8BA transmission and open driveline. Thank you Fordbarners.

I would imagine so. A 65 mustang T-10 bolts onto the 8BA bell housing.

Some transmissions in the 55/56 era have dual bolt patterns. Early T-10's for example. But the overdrives were much larger behind the t085 case

The 1955 Ford 3 speed overdrive transmission is normally the Ford design sideloader with the rectangular 9 bolt side cover and the R10 overdrive unit. It would have the 1" x 10 spline input shaft if it came from a passenger car. It would have the 1-3/8" x 10 spline input shaft that was an inch longer if it came from a truck.

With the passenger car version you need either the stamped steel 49-51 car bell housing and starter plate, or you could use the 52-53 cast iron car bell housing and starter plate. With either version you'd need to use the related clutch release fork.

These are sideloader types so you're either going to have to hook up the steering column shifter or rig up a Hurst style shifter that was made to operate the overdrive transmissions.

You'd use the Ford 9.5" clutch, or you could use the 10" disc with the small spline hub to match the trans input shaft. The pressure plate can be the 9.5" or the 10" Long style, depending on how the flywheel is drilled.
