YIPPEE!!! Started engine replacement!!
Have the A in the shop and started removing last night. Spent last winter looking for an engine, got sidetracked by a T speedster, and found an engine last May.
Two questions: 1. How to remove GAV/choke rod. 2. What to look out for when seperating engine from tranny. Pretty stoked to get the A back on the road. |

Pull up on metal sleeve on rod under the hood. you will see the rods are offset each other, seperate them and it come apart. In the red box.

Re: YIPPEE!!! Started engine replacement!!
Don't force anything when you try to seperate the engine from the tranny. Make sure ALL the bolts have been removed. I've read a couple of broken parts threads when a bolt was missed.
Be sure to remove the throttle cross linkage first, and install it last, so it doesn't get damaged or mess up the firewall paint. |

Re: YIPPEE!!! Started engine replacement!!
Thanks for the info Gunmetal and Tom. Radiator coming out tonight and if time allows the engine. Just have to remove the cross linkage, tranny bolts, and unbolt from frame. Unhooked the GAV/choke this morning.

Will be checking tranny fluid level and wondering what weight of oil to use if needed. |

Engine istalled and wired last night. The inlaws invited themselves over for dinner again last night so didn't get started until after 9, but was productive. Oh, I'd like to thank the person who invented the engine leveler.

Work and family have kept me busier than a cat covering crap on a marble floor but thankfully my car is back on the road. The tail/brake light thread has been a good read and looks to be a good winter upgrade along with some 16" wire wheels.

Congratulations on your accomplishments. Hopefully the inlaws will come over when it's time to go to the gas station ( lol ) !

How necessary/helpful is it to use an engine leveler?

Slackcat,
You should have taken your father-in-law out the garage and given him a wench. More fun than chating with the ladies. |

Re: YIPPEE!!! Started engine replacement!!
Not necessary but helpful when by yourself. I had it for another car where I wanted to install an engine and tranny as one unit. On the A it let me angle the engiine in easier and not have to remove the headlight bar.
