Re: What is the best quality ignition points?
I got this info here on the barn some time back. The OP thought they were good. They have a felt wiper to keep the cam oiled.

Re: What is the best quality ignition points?
It don' matter if one has good or poor quality points, if the distributor cam isn't as smooth as a baby's bum, the rubbing block on the points will wear down prematurely.
As noted previously, the cam requires a bit of periodic lubrication.

Re: What is the best quality ignition points?
Anyone ever considered replacing the phenolic rubbing block by unriveting it, making a new block, and riveting it back together? Seems like a lot of good points get tossed because of the rubbing block and the point surface itself is good.

Re: What is the best quality ignition points?
It is doable, I have seen a company that rebuilds obsolete points the contacts as well as the rubbing block.

The points were good. I had replaced the cam w/a new "B" cam and never thought to check the cam surface, it was terribly rough and wore the rubbing block down within about 100 miles. I used some, about 5/16" thick, fibre board I had.

Re: What is the best quality ignition points?
Good idea for saving an otherwise quality set of points. I would think small pop rivets would also work for this repair without fear of the machine screws working loose.

Re: What is the best quality ignition points?
I used machine screws rather than rivets because I was worried about breaking the new rubbing block when setting the rivet.

Re: What is the best quality ignition points?
Thanks for that, I'll keep it in mind in case I have to repair another set of points. I do have some nylon stock but no idea what flavor it is.

Re: What is the best quality ignition points?
The rubbing block wears in the first 1000+ miles then gets a glaze on it and mostlikly won't wear fast after that, keep it lubbed. You are at .019 which is good
