Default Eastwood and the internet

About two weeks ago, I made a post about not buying anything from Eastwood and finally being removed from their mailing list. Post #6 on this thread : https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...light=eastwood.

Two days later, I received an email from them, again soliciting their overpriced products. Since then, I have been deluged with emails from them. I have to believe that they are monitoring certain of these forums for mention of their name, matching it to their records, and targeting the poster. I know it sounds paranoid, but it's just close enough to be kinda scary.

Look, face it, in this new age everyone can watch you. The way around this is go off the grid and build underground, just make a big enough cave for the model A!

They don't have to employ warm bodies to monitor you. They have algorithms that do it all. No human intervention required.
It can get dramatically worse though, we are way, WAY behind China in Big Brother technology.
(Careful how you respond, we are not alone here ).

Try the 'Duck Duck Go' App. Free to download.
This should stop or least slow the number of unsolicited email and texts.

Check out the 'who's on line' section.
After the usual participants there are 'guests', 'google spider' and various other 'spiders' listed.

Any one of them can be monitoring and passing the info on to Eastwood or any other interested parties.

I think one of the early Ford parts vendors is selling our email addresses to Eastwood. I ordered a bunch of parts for my new Model A project from 3 or 4 different vendors and shortly after I started getting emails from Eastwood almost every day. I have an old email box I only use for ordering stuff and that was the one on the orders and the one Eastwood is spamming.

That being said if you guys are using any kind of social media they are taking every word you type on their platform and using it for marketing and product advertisement. The social media is not the product, your data is the product. Be careful with what you put out there. There is no such thing as private or secure on the internet. Only harder to get to

On Facebook, they know when you stop and view something even though you don't click on it. Also, things you view online end up appearing on Facebook. Who knows what else.

If anyone here doesn't think the Ford Barn is social media, I got news for ya.
...And should you wish to post a review on a product, I got more news for ya.

All I have to do on my browser is look at a product from somewhere for anything, whether it be a holley fuel pump or tin ceiling tile and I get the ads for months. I don't think I ever get anything based on a post comment from the Barn though.

Haven't bought much lately; but they have a good tech library; of course they're using their products ; but good ideas there.
