Paging the '35 truck experts - chassis issue
Looks like I'll be needing a new front cross member for my truck. I pulled the engine today and found this.
Is there anything particular about the '35 TRUCK cross member or is the car cross member the same?? Thanks, Heard

Re: Paging the '35 truck experts - chassis issue
wish I had ten dollars for everyone of those I have seen and repaired, I have welded them up using parts from a junked 35 car and also changed them out--lot of work to redo the rivet look. not too uncommon for a truck,on my 40 in the yard the rear one is cracked like that now, rough roads and heavy loads!!

Weld a patch panel into it.
Less work than ripping it out. |

I had the same problem with mine poorly done patch. I cut it out made a new piece and welded it all up. Came out as good as new just make sure to weld the piece in parallel to a bar resting across the frame rails.

if you decide to replace it [i would]consider using a cross member from a `40. a `40 sway bar will bolt right in, put a sway bar in my `37 1/2 ton and is a worth while upgrade.

Re: Paging the '35 truck experts - chassis issue
Can't say for sure, but a few years ago I removed the front crossmember from a pickup frame that appeared to have a factory riveted-on reinforcement. Pictures below show the pickup one with the reinforcement and a beat up one from a car that had a repair made to it similar to your's. Other than the reinforcement the pickup crossmember is identical to one from a car. With today's roads and the kind of use your truck will likely get, a normal car crossmember should suffice one would think.

Thanks for the input guys. Yes, Lawson, I should have said 'pickup', not 'truck.
