Re: A Pre-War Midget restoration
Very nice job on the pre war midget...nice workmanship!
You might want to check some of the photos in the Fox midget book showing dash gauges and steering wheels...many of these V8-60 cars built before the war had an aircraft oil pressure gauge in the center...a 1940's water temperature gauge on the left and and a fuel pressure US gauge or aircraft gauge on the right side....some may have had dual water temperature gauges but the drivers generally wanted to know the fuel pressure amount. You might also want to put a vintage pre war steering wheel on or as close as you can get to that. Please don't jump on me for this..I am just trying to help the man out in case he is having the car judged at an AACA or similar show. Good luck with the car! Bill....Pa |

Re: A Pre-War Midget restoration
thanks guys! Bill I was trying for awhile to obtain pre-war gauges to do just what you said but finding ones that were the correct size, period & price never all added up. then I started looking for early SW gauges with the beveled glass- same deal basically. In the end I went with the duel water (upper/lower) & one oil. I may still add a psi gauge off to the left side for my gas tank as I do have an original hand pump that still needs to go on.

Re: A Pre-War Midget restoration
Here are some more progress pics from back in the Fall of 2013. A Re-cap of summer & Fall projects - I rebuilt & painting the front and rear axle's,fixed & painting the frame , set up and painted a mock up engine, fabricated an aluminum belly pan, fabricated the front engine mount and finished the engine mid mount to the I/O & frame, made a dash panel for my gauges, re-workd the stock ford rear radious rods to fit my rear/chassis,mounted some new (old) tires on my 12" mag wheels (then later had one blow up on me- too much PSI?). And finally assembled it all & got it rolling. this coming spring I hope to finish the hood & nose metal work, start polishing the cast grill nose, Fabricate an aluminum gas tank, install the friction shocks ,fab some upper/lower radiator tanks & start mocking up an interior. Time & money...thats all it takes LOL.
