Painting/coating an A deck hinge? ARM

With the advent of the hinge rubbing together, I can paint, or have coated. Chrome is out. I foresee some kind of chipping somewhere, and it will bug me. How do you guys do it, and what would be the best results? Not going for the 100 point car, but details like this I try to get pretty darn good..... Thanks-Kid

I give you my best advice! Test fit everything before you paint! I spent a considerable amount of time working the top hinge of my 31 AA truck before getting it to paint. I hand filed the joints paying close attention to how tight the joints were together to allow for sealer, primer, and paint. Thinking all was good after hours of test fitting and filling, I sent it to my painter. Now up here in lotus-land there was a switch to water borne paint which he had difficulty with. It seems as he sprayed the edges were too translucent. His answer to that was to apply LOTS MORE PAINT! The sad result was when first opening the hood, almost all the new paint peeled off the fingers of the hinge. Some places on a Model A will always wear the paint off. Such as B- pillar wear the door latch strikes before seating in the latch. And invariably the top of the 28-29 rumble lid when "someone" forgets to ensure the latch is fully retracted before closing. Bottom line, if you are really going to enjoy your car as a driver, it will pick up dings, scratches and scars. Yea it hurts for a while, but you can always repaint.
