Default E28-Floor Weather Pad (S Column)

Like so many others… bad case of cabin fever here in mid-Atlantic … going through my “A” photos while I still have power.
Would appreciate comments as to the correct shape and installation of A-35122-AR FLOOR WEATHER PAD. I apologize to anyone I should acknowledge for the attached photos-early in my collecting I failed to record my sources.

A: possibly an original pad? Seems to have been previously (crudely) installed. However, the original molded areas for screws were not used (and are a very different shape than other examples). Note the ‘flange' around the 3 edges IS a uniform size.

B: reproduction (don’t recall source). ‘oval’ shape of molding around pedals. ‘Flange’ around the 3 edges is NOT uniform size.

C: reproduction (popular vendor). Pedal holes similar to original; oblong screw holes. ‘Flange’ around the 3 edges is NOT uniform size.

D: reproduction (popular vendor). “Someone” assumed the thin flanges around the edges were left over from the molding process … trimmed them off …now feel they should remain and be tucked under floor mat/carpet … expensive lesson learned Anyone interested in a ‘modified’ repro?

** Would much enjoy any photos of original pads
Stay warm and safe!!

Interesting to have vendors go to all the trouble to make B, C, and D when they could of copied an original and be done with it.

Interesting samples Charles.

Is "A" of solid rubber or is there a cloth reenforcement within?

Steve,...I thought it had a piece of "sheet metal", with the rubber molded
around it..

i've not seen an original...

The JS say: "There was a pyramid patterned rubber pad (weather seal) with a metal core around the steering column. "
(assume similar to later style 2-piece)

The original that I have has the metal moulded into the whole pad, like the photo in post #5, where you can see the metal sticking out by the pedal holes, where the rubber has been broken off.

In 2000 I bought a repro plate from Bratton's, and it has the metal plate molded in, just like my original. My original was in bad shape, but I saved it somewhere.
I'll look around for it, but don't hold your breath.

Years ago a flimsy repro was made with no metal inside. It was 70s - early 80s. About 15 years ago we acquired several nice originals and made a mold using them as the example. We have made and sold 1700 of them, and are the only ones that have made them in the last 30 years. The have a metal reinforcement inside as do all of the original ones. We make these one at a time by hand as well as numerous other exact copies for other rubber parts such as Cabriolet (both 68B and 68C) and Sport coupe landau iron spacers? Iwill tame some photos Monday and post here.
