I prefer to use the 6203-2RS, which is with 2 rubber seals. The 6203-RS which is w/one rubber seal could be used with the open side towards the crankshaft. The bearings with metal shields are just that, shields, not seals.

If the vehicle is stored more than driven, I gravitate toward the bushings for pilot bearings. When I install one, I put grease in the pocket of the crankshaft to give it a bit more life. I never have to worry about the corrosion and seizure that can happen with ball bearings that set around too much. This is just my own preference. Others may not agree and that's fine with me.

Its interesting to scan the Internet and see the various solutions to pilot bearing that have been tried. Roller bearings, bushings, teflon, nylon. Each generation seems to have developed an "improvement" to a bearing of dimensions/application for the Ford flywheel "pocket."

Almost tempting in a way. Except it IS a lot of work to pull an engine to make the change/reversion if found unsuccessful.

Google Bearing 6203. The options are legion.
