Picked up a '35 coupe
I usually "play" over on the model-A side of the Barn so this will be a new experience for me. This '35 will be a future project.
The seller said it's been stored inside since 1964. It has rot along the bottom of the body. I guess that's normal for these? It's missing the V-8 flatty, trans, steering column, brake/clutch assembly. It has an old independent front suspension in it. That's getting cut out and sent to the scrap yard. I already found an original front cross member. Can anyone tell me if any of the body, interior, and suspension / chassis parts are shared with other year early Fords? That way I can keep a eye out for the parts I need. Thanks.

Re: Picked up a '35 coupe
Any '35-'40 front axle/wishbone/spring assembly will bolt-into a stock crossmember. I'd look for at least a '37 FRONT axle assy to take advantage of the "ROUND" spindles, which take the hydraulic backing plates without any mods. Look for a '37-'48 steering box for the easiest steering. Nice old car! DD

Re: Picked up a '35 coupe
What about body parts. (fenders, hoods, doors, etc.) Are any other years the same?
Are the chassis the same '35-'40?

Order the 1935-36 Ford Book from The Early Ford V-8 Club of America. Just got mine awhile back and it's worth every penny...

Re: Picked up a '35 coupe
Your fenders and hood are 35 only. deck lid is 35-36. Doors will be the same as 1936 5W coupe. You can also use fordor doors, but they will require work to fit. 35's have a lot of unique 1935 parts to them. Frame is basically the same 1935-1940. Running gear has a lot of differences but you can mix and match if you are not going for a 100% restoration. If you are used to model A's, you may find a bit of "sticker shock" when you start buying V8 car parts haha!

Re: Picked up a '35 coupe
For many parts you are kind of stuck. However "36 doors, glass, steering, running boards, deck lid and general mechanical parts will work. However, many interior parts are not interchangeable between a '35 and '36. The '36 fenders will work but you will need to change several things to get everything to fit together. The "36-'40 frames will work but the '37-'40 would be the better choice. They have an improved rear transmission mount and the better steering gear frame plate. If you stay with a '35-'36 frame and want '37-'40 steering you need to deal with changing the fame mount for the gear. Can be a PITA.
Generally, not much of non-mechanical parts of later year models are applicable to your '35. Tom |

Re: Picked up a '35 coupe
Vin-tin, looks like you made a good deal. Depending on how you want to do this car, the parts you will probably need should not be that difficult to find. Since I am pretty well dedicated to the '35 model year vehicles, I pick up parts for them at every chance I get, so I may have extra parts like you may need that I am willing to sell. Not sure just where you are located in Eastern PA, but we may not be all that far away from each other. When you get started on this projrct, send me a PM with your wish list of stuff needed. I may be able to help.

Re: Picked up a '35 coupe
Thanks for the responses from everyone. I'm in the middle of an "A" restoration right now so it may be a few years till I get to this.
JM 35 Sedan, Thanks. I will look you up when I get started.
