Default Carburetor ID

This should be as easy one for everyone but me. I'm trying to ID the carburetor in my '35 so I can order a rebuild kit. The motor is not original to the truck. My best guess is it's around a 1940. Carb has Ford and "59" on the side and "94" on the back. So what do I have? What kit should I be looking for? Any suggestions on a good place to get a kit?

As always, Thanks for the help.

It's a model 59, correct for 1945 through 1948. Most build kits will come with extra parts for other models, you pick the parts that fit your needs. "Good" kits will have fuel proof parts, but even then, you will want to use your old original leather piston in your accelerator pump rather than the blue composite piston supplied. Just oil it up to make it soft again, it's as good as it gets. The suppliers and builders that post on this forum all have the good kits, and some put together their own kits to your needs.

What your looking for is a holley/ford 94 rebuild kit should be available from most supplier.

You say correct for 1945 through 1948. Will it work properly on my engine or should I be looking for a replacement?

Thank you. That makes it much clearer.

I also agree with flatjack9 and ford38v8. Will work fine. Based on what I can see of you're engine, it looks like a 59 based on the heads and water outlet location. I would say the carb is the correct one for the engine you have.

Most suppliers will have it. We have them in stock also (listed under the engine parts prices)

As for modern fuel proof, some kits have a blue rubbery seal on the accelerator pump and claim this to be modern fuel proof. The ones I've seen in the cheaper kits ain't modern fuel proof, neither is the black rubbery tipped float needle. Use the leather accelerator pump seal and all metal float needle. These work much better in my opinion/experience.

Thanks scooder. More good info.
I was wondering how well the stock fuel pump will stand up to ethanol. Should I replace it or run it as is?

Just a small bit of useless trivia: The top of your Carb is from a earlier 94 such as 91-99 from 1940. Note the oblong vent hole location. By 1945 the oblong hole was replaced by a vent tube inside the Carb throat. This has nothing to do with the performance or the rebuilding kit you need. Good Luck.

Get hold of Charlie NY on here, he does built proof fuel pump diaphragms, nothing they put in pump gas will hurt his diaphragms. Or he could rebuild your pump with the good stuff in it.
Off the shelf new pumps often pump the wrong pressure, a good rebuild and test on an old pump is often the best thing.
Martin.

On the vent...I don't have any hard info from Ford, but there are suspicions that the vent was moved because the engine fan could slightly pressurize the bowl through that and so disturb the mixture in the direction of rich. If you can find one, I'd swap a real 59 top casting with the vent tube inside slanted over choke. This is common, used on carbs from around '42 through the early 1950's.

Is it possible to run a model 59 and a 91-99 together on a double intake?

Thanks!

They are identical but for vent location and controls.
