Mr. Lind,
I believe the lower two keys in your photo are original door or deck lid keys; the number corresponds to those applications for the period 1928 through mid 1930. Your two B&S keys, however, have a number that also corresponds to the same application for the same period. It is not an ignition number, nor does the head of those keys match Ford production. This is according to the latest version of the Judging Standards, but I don't honestly know if things were different in Europe. Can you tell us if your ignition switch is a pop out type? Or can you post a picture of your instrument panel and your engine compartment showing the cable? This is a very interesting question, and pictures would help us. Thank you.

I think the first photo shows the back side of the keys, and the second photo shows the front, and one of the door/deck lid keys has a number and the other doesn't. Both door/deck lid keys have the diamond B on the back. At least, that's the way I'm interpreting the pix.

I do not recall that "plind' asked for people to evaluate the keys for their originality; he just stated he was told these were the keys the owner said came with the car when new.

What has been gained by some of the comments ?

Howdy Per,

Two questions:

1. Which of your cars do these keys belong to?

2. What surface are the keys on in the photos?

Thanks.

What you have is a replacement ignition lock. Ford sold these as the original tend to stop working. The key shown is the one that should be used on your car for ignition lock and door lock. Cars assembled in Holland in 1931 had these keys, I know as I owned an original Tudor when living there.

Ron, I think the comments have clarified what is original equipment and what is not, which can be useful information for anyone trying to get back to original. In that light, the comments were not intended to be putdowns of Mr. Lind's keys, but rather to prevent misinformation being spread. We did make allowance for the possibility that things might have been different in European production, and if that was the case, that also would have been useful information and increased what is known about the history of the A. I hope Mr. Lind did not take offense, because certainly none was intended.

Here is a picture of my original key for my Victoria lots of wear but it operates both the pop out and the door. I would like to find another but have been unsuccessful.
