Question looking for radaitor

Looking for a radaitor for a 29 truck that I will be using for a driver. How has the best one for the price and which one would be the best for a driver and not show? Thanks Pete

Berg's Radiator - http://www.bergsradiator.com/modela.html

I got mine in French Lick and I couldn't be happier.

Dad recored mine from a local place and if I remeber right it has the same three cores but an additional fin per inch. It looks nice but you can tell that it is new. I have only 125 miles on her and she ran great on the freeway. I think it cost me about 350?

I've a couple of friends that also bought rads from Bergs at French Lick who report good performance, although they still had to file the neck a bit to get their Rad caps on.

I recently had one re-cored with a 10 fin at a local shop. Fit perfectly with no adjustments and performed well. Temp was 160 degrees at rad top and at the water outlet, which I thought a bit cool.

So I installed my resoldered original 6 fin (looks better to me) and it still runs a cool 160 with front license plate and 7 rad badges blocking wind.

Contemplating installing a 180 thermostat.

Is this truck a pickup, or the large AA truck?

I bought a Bergs 28-9 core and will use my old tanks to make the best aftermarket radiator you can find. I've used a couple of the other makes and wasn't happy with the fit or quality.

I purchased a radiator from Brassworks. The upper funnel was 7/8 inch too low. I called Brassworks and they said to send it back and they would make me another. I told them that I would like to know the root cause of why it was too low. The top radiator hose would kink up when I tried to put it on.
My car is a 1929 Town Sedan. In October 1929 Ford changed the mounting surface for the radiator pads. They lowered the pads 3/8 of an inch and added 3/8 of an inch shim on each side until the end of 1929 production. I put 3/8 shim under the mounting pad and the radiator was still 1/2 inch too low. A Friend of mine had an original 1929 Ford radiator and he brought it over and it fit like a glove. We laid both radiators down side by side and we found that the angle of the funnel was not the same on the two. We also noted that the boss that the funnel was supposed to set in side was not correct on the Brassworks radiator it was 1/2" too low. I sent pictures back to Brassworks and Mr. Lee said send radiator back and he will build a new one. I shipped it back and it cost $75 shipping. Two weeks latter Brass works called and wanted to charge shipping for the new radiator. I told them no that I had paid for shipping two times and that I was not going to pay for shipping the third time. I asked for my $75 back and was told they would not pay return shipping. Brassworks said that they would send me a refund if I was not happy but not return shipping. They did send me my refund back but not the $75 return shipping. If the second radiator was also bad I would have to pay shipping back to them again. How many times do I should I have to pay for a defective radiator that was the manufactures fault? See pictures on the attachment. One half of an inch too low.pdf

Although I had a good experience with BrassWorks when I bought a new radiator for my 31 Roadster last fall (including my sending them sketches of ALL the critical interface dimensions from my old radiator which he willingly worked to - giving me a perfect fit), it is beyond my comprehension how a manufacturer of ANY Model A repro part CANNOT get it right when there are absolutely good original parts out ther that they can precisely duplicate - if they take the time and effort to do their homework!!

That would be far better for them in the long run than having to deal with all the angry, dissatisfied customers, lost customers, refunds, tarnished reputationss, etc.

I guess there are enough customers - who never complain and just live with and correct the poor quality themselves - that the mfgrs end up net-profiting from their corner-cutting. No incentive to change.

Sadly, that's a downside of how capitalism works! - No customer feedback, no mfgr corrective action! The upside is that enough negative customer reaction will force a mfgr to shape up if he wants to stay in business.

Of course there are some honest, responsible, professional mfgrs who will fix things as soon as they see a problem without having to be forced. - Increasingly rare these days.
