bi-plane gas caps
At a recent car show, I asked my wife if she preferred the plain gas cap on A’s or the ones with planes on them. She replied, “If the planes were bi-planes,she would prefer it over the plain cap, but the mono planes didn’t look right.” I agree and am going to try to modify my gas cap mono plane into a bi-plane. Or, buy a bi-plane if they are available. I don’t have any plating shops close by, and I will have to have anything I do chrome plated after adding a wing. Please let me know if bi-planes are available and how to get one.
Thanks, Mike |

Re: bi-plane gas caps
I’ve never seen a gas cap with decorations. Did you mean radiator cap??

Re: bi-plane gas caps
the "thing" on the radiator cap is a Quail...not a dove.

That looks like the top off a trophy (example below) - might try online and/or local trophy suppliers. |

Re: bi-plane gas caps
Ifn that's a radiator cap that's been used for a gas cap, be sure that there's a vent hole in it, or at least be able to vent around the aircraft mounting.

Re: bi-plane gas caps
That would be my guess and probably easiest to do.

Re: bi-plane gas caps
On a 1030 - '31 Model A, the gas cap ornament will interfere with opening the windshield.
In lieu of using chrome plate, consider using a faux nickle / chrome powder coat. It's a lot less expensive.

Re: bi-plane gas caps
Thanks, everyone. The thing that I don't understand is why it's there in the first place. That gas cap, and it truly is a vented gas cap, has really fine threads and isn't the easiest thing to screw back on. With that little plane up there, it can be a real hassle to line up the threads. I've removed the plane and left the hole open so I have excellent ventilation.
