What was the point of the throttle control on the column?
Was it just so folks used to a Model T would be able to drive more easily?

Yup always gotta have it, for that long trip but always have my hand on the throttle just in case and the foot close to the brake!

The engine will more likely stay running when hand cranking a cold engine, if you pull it down a click or two.

My 1933 Chev had a hand operated throttle also. It was a pull out control.
Seems to have been a common feature at that time.

My 1949 Chevy 1 1/2 ton truck also has a factory cable throttle as well as the foot feed. My truck doesn't have a PTO, but if one was installed the hand throttle would be handy.

Rowdy, if you've driven accross the nullabor in Australia, then you really know about long flat roads.
