German Flathead in '53 Ford F100
Hi guys,
a friend of mine had bought a '53 Ford 100 with and rusted and blocked 8BA engine and the original 3 speed transmission. He also got a german G29 flatty that in good shape and he wants to install it. He would like to keep the original transmission but it doesn't fit due to the fact that the G29 block is similar to the french or 59Ab block. The bold pattern of the transmission is complete different. Is there an adapter available to for a '53 3 speed transmission that matches to a 59AB block. Otherwise he had to swap the transmission. Any ideas? Thanks for your help |

Re: German Flathead in '53 Ford F100
The 1953 F100 had mounting on the bell housing and is a 1 year only set up. It may be easier to find an 8BA engine due to this difference. If you use an early style block, it will need a half bell adapter but there will be no rear support. The adapter would have to work for the narrow Borg Warner flange bolt pattern or an early transmission could be used and a cross member would have to be fabricated to install a rear mount. A Mercury overdrive trans could be used but it is side shift.
Is the F100 a top shift or side shift transmission? |

Re: German Flathead in '53 Ford F100
I am in contact with Dennis and just sent him some information (in German :-))
Have you checked this web site: http://www.wilcap.com/flathead.html#FHID They provide a lot of helpful information about all the options he has with different gear boxes and/or bell housing adapters. The three speed gear box adapter to the 59A can be found here https://macsspeed.com/index.php/prod...d-49-64-detail Please note that the clutch finger sits on a cross shaft and he probably has to modify his clutch release arm. Good luck. Last edited by Cyclone_Racer; 09-01-2021 at 12:18 AM. |
