Default Shock arm bolt change

Anyone know when the shock arm bolt head size was changed from 5/8" to 9/16"? Noticed several of my later style shock arms had 6/16" and my earlier arms had 5/8". Thanks Rod

Hi Rod, did you mean 9/16? 3/8 (6/16) is kinda small for that application. Bill

I've never seen an original shock arm bolt with a 5/8" hex.

Hi Rod, Sorry about being an 'wise a**.' I went an look at my early 30 coupe. All the shock arm bolts have a 9/16" head on a 3/8 - 24 x 1 7/8" shaft. I cannot say if the bolts are original. Maybe someone with an early 28 can tell us if Ford used a 5/8" head on the shock arm bolts. Bill

I will go double check my bag of bolts later on today. I put it all up for the time being. I was getting what I have all together to try to make a trade with one of the shock builders for 2 sets of rebuilt shocks. Looks like I have 31 cores, 6 front arms and 14 or so rear arms. Trying to match up the arm markings, cover markings and such has been a real pain. The Spicer cover markings still have me abit confused on which ones were used when, about all I can distinguish is 28-29 and 30-31 or wherever that line is drawn on the indented covers. I put it all away for now, but will get it out later on. Rod
