I resently bought several Model A's my first, with a lot of parts, I have read about the very early 1927 A cars, in the parts I have 4 transmissions 1 that is different, break handle, access panel, and not the normal clutch assembly how do I know if its worth something to someone looking for a early part, Im only interested in finding it the best home and getting parts for the 31 coupe I have.

The first A's had a multiple disc clutch, identified by a large nut threaded onto the input shaft. Also a few had the E-brake on the left side of the interior, next it was in front of the shift lever, with a different style handle. Value??? Probably not much?

as above the early A had no park brake on the tranny tower.
they had a multi disc clutch, the input shaft has a nut threaded onto it just behind the pilot input.
the top inspection plate on the bell housing will have no louvers.

all the gears in all the model A transmissions, with the exception of the input shaft/drive gear, will interchange.
the early case can not be used for the later single disc application.

as far as value. if you are lucky enough to have good gears with minimal wear you may get a few bucks for them.
the money ticket is the cluster gear but there again it would have to be real good shape to be of any value.

i have bought tons of Model A trannys and have only found two nice cluster gears and a few 2nd/3dr slider gears.

the thing is all those gears are available new, so most will just go with new.

if the top can be lifted off and it appears the gears are good you may get $50 each. someone who is willing to gamble their $50.

if you are going to keep you model A, and if you are going to keep it stock. Keep all the parts for that "just in case day". its not hard to disassemble and reassemble a model A transmission. you could even use all the best parts and have a spare tranny on hand. or keep the good gears and throw out the bad, it won't take up that much room.

please at the very least, keep these parts under cover...indoors if possible.
Otherwise you may find your worn parts go to a zero value and useable parts end up as scrap value.

They almost bring more for scrap- sad to say.
