It just looks like a Model A engine. It might be a later replacement engine. Diamond block.

Is there a number stamped on a pad on the left side of the block just below the head gasket.

The tube is a B tube. Might be a B motor but need to see the motor from both sides to tell.

My late 1931 "A" engine has the fat (B?) filler tube.
It has no other items differing from the standard "A" engine.

The diamond blocks were made after stock production ceased. Some theories are that they have thicker castings, but this is disputed often. The usual difference is that diamond blocks were often used in industrial applications and often have hard valve seats.

How can you tell a diamond block from a standard "A" block? Is there a diamond cast into the block or something? A diamond in the serial number?

Someone said industrial engines serial numbers do not start with an "A". Is this true? I heard industrial engines have different valve springs.

Let me know.

Thanks

Glen, I think the early Model A's had them to about middle 1928, thanks Herm.

Diamond engines had a small diamond cast in the block near the cam gear side cover.

I don't know about the serial numbers on industrial engines.

Complete engine assemblies for stationary engine use were serial numbered. They included all the accessories including starters, generators, etc. Engines for use in service were unnumbered, so an engine could be either way depending on the intended use.

I have several heads identical to what is shown. They are Ford built heads cast after the A went out of production. Just in front of the water outlet you can see a date "tag" cast into the head. Gar Williams

Gar, in the Model A Judging Standards, Copyright 1981, on page 1-1 at bottom Right, it says.

"Quote" Most cylinder heads had no Ford script and few, if any markings. Ford script heads are acceptable through mid 1928 only. After mid-1928, Model A cylinder heads had no numbers or letters on them. Other after market heads will appear identical to the factory original heads, except they may have raised bosses with numbers or letters. "End Quote"

Ford was real touchy about someone using the Ford name on after market parts. A good friend of mine who lived in Omaha, Mel Alexander also told me that those heads were Model A AR. So if that ford script is not Early AR, what do the Early AR's look like, as that head is the only Model A head style I have seen with Ford script. If I am mistaken, I would like to find out, I am going to keep digging in my Model A books, and see what I can find, give me some help Guys, see what you can find. thanks Gar, Herm.
