Hello Tom, I am about 100 miles from Johnson City, TN which is close to Bristol. You have a good ign system, easier to work on than the original. I have had problems with replacement points breaking the spring on them. You can check that by removing the cap and shining a light in the dist. Its the flex lin to your pump that goes bad because of the rubber in it.

I just went through all this on my 53 Flatty (in my 46 Mercury truck). After similar suggestions and advice, I changed out all the ignition parts: condensor, cap, rotor and wires - which were needed. It then ran well for a while until I went on a longer ride and it happened again, no power, felt like no gas getting to carb and then it stranded me. This time I cleaned the fuel system by forcing air backwards from the fuel line at the carb. Problem seems to have been solved, so although it "could" have been ignition related, it was also a plugged fuel line somewhere. Next spring I'll be pulling the tank for a thorough cleaning.

Hope you get 'er figured out - it's frustrating fer sure!

I'm still suspicious of the ignition system, be it a condensor or timing problem. Both should be checked. If you need help checking your timing send me a PM.
