29Closed Cab Pick up door hinges
My painter lost 2 of the hinges to my pick up . Are any other hinges interchangeable with the 82-A? Thanks.

Re: 29Closed Cab Pick up door hinges
Unless I missed something, the hinges on the CC 82-A doors are specific to that door and that door only as per the Ford Body Parts List, November 15, 1929. As you know, these doors were carry-over from the Model T's.
There are plenty of "damaged" doors out there and I am sure you will have no problem finding the "missing" ones. Pluck |

Re: 29Closed Cab Pick up door hinges
Ed & Steve,
I could be wrong( according to my wife ), but 2 styles of hinges will fit those doors. Ones with and with out fingers on the A pillars and the doors. One way they interchange, the other they don't. Sorry no photos, Mot I'm not. Dudley |

Re: 29Closed Cab Pick up door hinges
Dudley, if "fingers" means hinges like a roadster then mine are with out. The A post part of the hinge is one curled piece of steel and the door half of the hinge covers it. Thanks for the help, anyone else out there got any old hinges?

Re: 29Closed Cab Pick up door hinges
There were two designs of hinges for the 82-A as shown in the attached picture. The first design was 1927 and early 1928. I have found them on two cabs with the high rear window and Ford script above.
If anyone happens to have any of the early design hinges, I am missing one center hinge pillar half (see attached photo). I have an extra lower hinge pillar half to trade. I believe the multiple prong hinges were used on the T. Attached is a picture of one of these. Ford sold hinges as an assembly (i.e. both hinge halves and the hinge pin). So, there was never a mix up of the parts. I saw a set of 82-A hinges sell on Ebay for about $400 not too long ago (amazing)! |

Re: 29Closed Cab Pick up door hinges
Ed I have a complete set (total 6) of the body half. No fingers. Put 27T doors on my truck and they are the 3 fingered type. Hence my left over halves............Gary

Re: 29Closed Cab Pick up door hinges
A friend pointed out that the rubber bumpers which the door window hits when lowered are about 1" higher in the T doors as compared to the A doors.
Soooo, I measured some of my doors. And, YES, my T doors have the brackets which the bumpers are attached to 1" higher than my A doors. The door window will end up sticking up above the garnish molding by about one inch. My friend took the brackets off his T door and shortened them. He then reinstalled them (using bolts) so his door window now lowers correctly. It seems that there is always something NEW to learn about OLD parts. |

What is the height of the "A" doors compaired to the "T" doors as far as the "brackets are concerned? Besides that difference...is there any more that one should be aware of? Pluck |

82-A Closed Cab and T Door Differences
Attached are two pictures showing the difference in the location of the door sash rest for an 82-A closed cab and T door (about 13/16" higher).
Some T doors have the door lock on the outside of the inner panel. Some T doors have only one sash rest in the center of the door. Some T doors have a crowned belt molding. I don't know which body styles these T doors were used on. |

Thanks for that info. I have a very good set of T doors for my 82A but have not looked them over closely. I was under the impression that they were the same. I'm sure thay will be close enough to be ok but it is good to know to watch for some minor differences. |

Re: 29Closed Cab Pick up door hinges
Neil Wilson,
I have collected parts to BUILD a cab from scratch for the past few years. Are the door lock mechanism interchangeable, I know there are 2 styles ? Thanks, Dudley |

Re: 29Closed Cab Pick up door hinges
Hello Dudley,
I am fairly sure that some of the T door locks are the same as what was used on the A. However, the door locks used on T doors where the lock fits on the outside of the inner panel must be modified to fit an A door. Pictures 1 is one of these T door locks - note there are no d-nuts for attaching the lock to the inner panel. The lock plate is square at the bottom corner. The A lock has the lower corner cut off at a radius. Without this radius the lock can not be installed in an A door. Also, the lock operator (extends through the garnish moulding) has a dog leg (off-set). The A door lock operator is flat. Pictures 2 is another of these T door locks which I took off an A cab. Note that the lower corner has been cut off to allow it to be installed. There should have been two d-nuts added as well. But, instead a bolt/nut was used. So to get the bolt out, I have to reach up inside the door to hold the nut with a wrench. Picture 3 is a normal lock used on the A and some T doors. If this does not answer your question, post pictures of your door locks or email pictures to me at [email protected] |
