Hole in firewall
I assume that the large hole in this firewall was put there to allow a manifold heater to let hot air into the passenger compartment. I was going to leave it there and just put a heater door over it. But when I received the heater door it was too small--so I guess I need to weld in a piece to block the hole.
Is my thinking correct???? Also, the A that I am working on is a 1929 Tudor. My question: Is the light bar for the headlights supposed to be straight where it goes in front of the radiator (and between the two head lights) OR is it supposed to have an arch (or curve) at that point???? |

Re: Hole in firewall
Fred93,
Your headlight bar is correct. '28-'29 bars had a straight section in front of the radiator, '30-'31 bars had a graceful curve. |

Re: Hole in firewall
Surely you are not going to weld it with the gas tank in place? If the goo coming out of that glass sediment bowl fitting is any indication of what's in the tank, it has to come out anyway. You have the correct flat headlight bar. The arched bar was for the higher 30-31 radiators.

Re: Hole in firewall
Here is a Photo of a Heater, Nice, I hope mine turns out to look like it. But the Intake needs to be painted green. Did you buy just a cover? Mine has a Funnel that goes in the Hole that the Door attaches to. The one in the Attached Image looks like it would fill Your hole ??

Re: Hole in firewall
Thanks to all for your help--(and NO I won't weld up that hole with the gas tank in place--it has been removed already!)

Re: Hole in firewall
Fred,
I'm curious as why you want to weld it over in the first place. Why not cut a patch for the hole in case you want to install a heater later. Pete |

Re: Hole in firewall
Be aware if you plan to use that hole for a heater there were many different heaters available back in the day and not all used the hole in the same location.

Re: Hole in firewall
I am working on this for a friend and he will never need a heater--believe me! But thanks again for the advice.
