Door handle removal
I have a 1930 coupe. So what am I missing? According to the article in Les Andrews Model A mechancis handbook, and I quote, to remove an outside handle on closed cars, remove the two mounting screws (escutcheon?) and turn the handle 1/4 turn left and pull the handle out. Left is counter clockwise correct? My handle only turns 1/8 of a turn and opens the door. I want to reuse the handles so grinder is out of the question!

Re: Door handle removal
You turn the handle 1/8 of a turn, NOT 1/4 turn. Then, with the 2 screws removed you wiggle the handle as you pull outward on it. I hold the latch closed to relieve some pressure, and I also spray some Kroil on the shaft to make it slide out easier.

Re: Door handle removal
There is an article on this in the may/june 2010 Restorer, volume 55 issue 1. If the handle doesn't pull out as tom explains then read the article. The kroil should help to loosen any rust, but if the handles have been in the car a long time you may have to tap them out. Bob
