What I Miss About The Old FORDBARN
What was better about the old FORDBARN, was about being able to have, even fifty, or more, responses to a single statement, all in the same thread. Now, they are separated by other statements. We lost that continuity. You could respond to the original statement or to another response. And, still be in the same thread.
BUT, the ease with photos is SUPER ! Just my opinion, MIKE |

Re: What I Miss About The Old FORDBARN
Hi Mike, you can do a lot of cool stuff here, you can form groups, you can have private convos, you can post pics and albums, I think that this will turn out way better, I think the guys just have to want to gel into groups and figure out how to use this tool to their advantage. This thing can be anything they want, they just have to work it their way.

Re: What I Miss About The Old FORDBARN
Under "User CP" at the top of your screen, you can go to "Edit Options" scroll down half way to the bottom of the page and turn on that confusing feature by selecting "threaded" as the way you want the board displayed. then you have to do lots more clicking on each answer and reading the tree break down as to who responded to who, rather than just scrolling the page down.
This is what it would look like...

Re: What I Miss About The Old FORDBARN
You may also want to turn on subscriptions to posts you respond to or start. that is also under User CP (stands for Control Panel) and then Edit Options.
In the second "Messaging & Notification" section, change the Subscription box from "Do Not Subscribe" to "No Email Notification." Now, whenever you come to the ford barn, click on User CP first to see if anyone responded to a comment you made. It will list all the comments that you are taking place in first. Then you can go read other comments, make comments, and grow your subscribed library of topics.

Am I to read optimism in that statement? HRP

Re: What I Miss About The Old FORDBARN
You can also reverse the order and have the newest comments be at the bottom of the page if you like. This is entirely customizable to you with the old ways still as an option.

I know what you are saying and what you mean. There were some folks on Shelly's 'Barn that no matter what they said, quite frankly, I didn't wouldn't give two poops about their opinion. It was easier to just skip over their B.S.postings by not clicking on their name. This layout, like the HAMB, forces you to read all of the comments made by the same d*ck h*ads you were trying to avoid in the first place. I know that may sound a tad anti-social, but its true |

Re: What I Miss About The Old FORDBARN
By changing the view to "Threaded" in the "Edit Options" screen, you get the old FordBarn thread layout at the top of the screen.

Re: What I Miss About The Old FORDBARN
Yep, I think this is much better. On the old barn, you needed to do a lot of scrolling if a subject was active for a few days. It tended to get buried. Now it goes right to the top. And if I don't like to read what someone says, it's easy to scroll right by it.

Maybe it's just because it's all new, but the "feel" of the old 'Barn is definitely MIA- I guess we're not in Kansas anymore,Toto. Seems we're left to pick up the pieces and try to make the best of the new HAMBARN...

Good point. Thanks for the navigation tips. I didn't know that. Not sure how famiular you are with crew from Fordbarn when Shelly ran it. Some real great guys offer pearls of wisdom. Like many places, there were also some real grumpy old farts who liked nothing but to complain and suffered from a bad case of aligator arms. When it came time to buck up and help out Shelly defry the cost, with some of the guys you'd hear crickets cripping in the background from their key boards. I truly wish Ryan luck with the transfer from old to new. There were certainly some quirks with the old system. Some folks just don't like change and need a big class of prune juice before they can even think about it. |

Re: What I Miss About The Old FORDBARN
I don't think so,let's keep it about Ford's,it's just going to take more time for some of the sages of the Old Barn to get past their learning curve and get a feel for the more advanced site.
Have you ever heard the expression,,HERDING CAT'S? HRP

I counted EIGHT times, that my original statement has been repeated here. What's with that ? I guess that we all have a lot to learn. In the replies to my opinion, I have been told that I was WRONG, I'm not thinking, because it's too much work and I'm not trying to get along. The truth is that I am not that computer savy. I do agree that it would have nice if the most active threads would have jumped to the top of the page. That really is nice. Maybe, a lot more tutoring is in order. Thanks, MIKE |

Re: What I Miss About The Old FORDBARN
Mike,
Your original statement was "repeated" because folks replying were quoting you using the "quote" button. The idea behind this is as a thread gets longer, it is important to reference what you're replying to. I can reply to your specific thread and even specific words. Ryan has put together an easy to read & understand tutorial here: http://69.61.21.195/are-ya-lost Additionally, there is the FAQ at the top in the black bar toward the right - that has more detailed, but technical explanations for just about every feature of the new forum software. Check under the "Reading and Posting Messages" link: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/faq.ph...eading_posting The thing I like most about this software is the ability to edit or delete your post - along with easy picture posting.

Never thought about that one. It's true, anybody could pick up your e-mail address on the old FORDBARN. It must have been designed, before that was a problem. MIKE |

Have you checked into the "IGNORE LIST"? There is a way you can enter the names of those individuals into the ignore list and their posting will disappear from your sight. There will be a little message that says "SO an SO is on your ignore list" and that is all you will see. Everything else will be there intact. This way you can continue reading without elevating your blood pressure. |
