Default Looking for Chrome Plater recommendation for my 68C Windshield

Hopefully someone here can help...I am looking for a recommendation of a chrome plater to do the windshield of my 68C slant windshield Cabriolet. My original is still intact, but starting to look a bit tired with rust bubbles beginning. I can obtain a steel reproduction windshield from Snyders, but it does not come chrome plated.

From what I understand, plating of the 68C windshield is a bit problematic as there are areas in the bottom corners that capture acid washes and where rust starts...special attention needs to be paid during plating to fully buffer these hidden areas and make certain plenty of copper plating is applied to the hidden areas for a long lasting job.

If anyone has a positive experience with a plater that you could recommend I would certainly appreciate the lead.

Best Regards,
Cliff Ward

this name was given to me two weeks ago by Hatfield Restorations of Canton TX. This company does high end plating for him and "hot rodders" along the east coast. I have never used them - just got the refferal.

I know people who have had work done by this shop and were incredibly impressed.

https://thefinishingtouchinc.com/

They aren't cheap but what of a 68C is?

Let me comment on WTSHNN...Finishing Touch. First they are excellent...the best.
Now here's how it works. You mail them your item. They will contact you and advise you they received it. Now they take the item and evaluate it by sending to each one the craftsmen who will ultimately work on it. Each man photographs its and makes a time and material sheet for his section. Your estimate is sent to you...Be sitting down! If you accept you will be returned a perfect project. If you decline they request payment for their evaluation time and shipping costs to return the item. This last part seems to aggravate some people as I have read some "reviews". I used them for numerous parts on my Studebaker. I was prepared for the cost and the work still gets comments. These guys are not a chrome shop. They do restoration type work and use copper, nickel and chrome. If you want the best use them...but just as an example my front bumper was $1000. It was made perfect and the back was zinc coated.

I have used them several times, never have been disappointed. Your windshield frame will look much better than when new.Pebble Beach quality!!

I was given this referral by a well-respected manufacturer of synchro Model A transmissions and Model A overdrives/“gear splitters”. I have not used them but recommendation was high:

https://www.abcplatinginc.com/
Sparks, NV (but you’re going to ship anyhow)

I used a few months ago

https://customplatingspecialist.com
Brillion, WI

for nickel plating, excellent results but (perhaps I’m out of touch) a bit pricy for me to repeat.

I gave up on my 68-B frame, and purchased what probably was the last of Gene Bunces new plated frames. I started out by filling pinholes om my original frame with silver solder, but every time I had the solder ground smooth a new little pinhole would appear, which would have to be re-soldered. Repeated this at least 10 times and sent the frame to the plater. But of course there were 2 microscopic pinholes left that I didn’t detect. But my God how they showed up after plating. I have been advised that if one is is to restore an original frame one should get a good frame from a sedan which was painted and not plated from the start. Frames that were plated from the factory will have such internal corrosion from the plating residues that they are impossible to mend properly. My experience supports that.

Resurrecting bad (or even moderately rusted) Model A windshields that will last 2-5 years…
A pipe dream….won’t happen.
Been there, done that and been associated with MANY…and several platers.
Eyestein 100% correct

There is a unicorn out there…..some very early 30’s had stainless steel…but not the top hinge. Seen 3; know where one is but won’t sell.
