I would love to do a survey to find out why phaetons have fallen out of favor. I absolutely love them and think its a 2-for; a family friendly roadster.

totally agree! just bought one a couple of weeks back and funny how its half the price of the roadsters....... yes the roadsters are hot- but something doesnt add up.

want to thank you for posting the realized prices. very informative.

My sentiments exactly. MT is the only car channel we get on the budget plan so I have really been looking forward to seeing parts of this auction.

Whenever I hear folks say the hobby is dead, I have to shake my head. It's not dead in the least, but the focus has certainly shifted.

Hot rods and old Fords that are modified for fun, daily driving are selling.

Case in point, this well done, fenderless '35 pick up sold for $125K. A very small sample size for sure, but look up hot rod sales on Mecum and this is not out of the norm.

It’s pretty amazing that this man could acquire that many 33-34 fords in the short amount of time that he started collecting them. I wish I knew someone who sold him one.
Hot rods do bring the most money, but building one also costs so much not many sell for a profit.
I watched the auction online. It was amazing and we’ll probably never see another collection like it.

Did anyone have any on site info to share? I was told by only 1 source a lot of the cars were not what they seemed quality-wise. Yes there were some good ones. In my mind be it a Ford or a Ferarri, a Dodge or a Duesy, QUALITY is 1st. If you can't get her legs up and break out the speculum You don't know. I mean look under seat cushions, shine a light down the window channels and see the bottoms, lay underneath and see the floors, look for mud. Then remember these cars sat dormant for years. Fuel and cooling systems, did they have antifreeze the year of the big freeze in TX? How much oxidation is on the wiring connections? How about all those sealed beam conversions, anyone see that?

I hate to be the bearer of logic and melt everyone's ice cream here but reality bites if you don't exact due dillegence. Do I have a dog in this hunt? Well, I do have a stunning 34 3W for sale so there's that. Anyways, did anyone else have boots on the ground there?

I have a 24 page PDF file of the results of the auction if anyone wants a copy. The Butler collection started at 11am each day and was over around noonish. Live TV coverage began at 1pm EST. That’s why you didn’t see it on tv. It was available on the internet.
