quick oil pan question

plug on the outside. Remove the 1/8 plug I see no through hole. I figure this is a filter return-engine never had a filter. Get my good eyed son, he can see a real small slit, real small slit. I stick air in there & sure enough air does come this button inside the pan. So the question? Does this slit replace the .060 restrictor on later - 49-53's I would say so. We don't do many pre 49 rebuilds so Is that the filter restrictor? Also we have several 1934 to 1941 engines and none have this button & plug. This is on a 1946 pan . Update bottom done top end done. What I do is now pour oil in the galley I spin the cam with a drill. And intantly get 60lb oil pressure while turning crankshaft by ratchet on pulley to insure oil filling crank. I also note that special front galley plug is important. Its there to drip not flow oil to the timimg gears. All is good now install cam gear & cover. My method is better than all that trying to prime stuff or a dry start, so my first start I have oil pressure.....The drill runs about 150 rpm counter clockwise-adaptor two studs into cam the drill; piece of rod with a rod welded to drive the 2 studs. so so easy to make just trying to help......... |
