Default Distributor:Second Point Won't Spark

Hello Ya'll
I have a 1950 F1 with a Mallory Dual Point Distributor and I am replacing the points and condenser in the distributor. I took both of the old ones out and I replaced the one moving in a clockwise direction first (If 12 o'clock is at the top). I Installed the point and then hand cranked the engine in the direction it runs until the point was just at its max open spot and then sized it to 0.022, assuming this is the correct sizing? I then installed the second one in a similar manner.

The problem I am having is that only the first one is sparking, the second does not. I tried resizing them both to 0.022 a couple times and still only first one sparks.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

E

You wont get the second one to spark , when the circuit is broken then you get the spark and this is done by the first set .Because of the overlap nature of the design the circuit is complete until the first set opens at the end of the cycle ,You need a timing light to set it up ,Ted

try .018 on both sets . One set "makes" the circuit on close and the other "breaks" the circuit on open. Only the open set will spark and with a good condenser you may not see it do that....like flathead ted said.......
