Model A shocks
I have 4 original Model A shocks that worked well but leaked. I bought the new Stipe shocks and they are performing well. What is the value of these leaking shocks? They can be rebuilt.

Re: Model A shocks
There are a few fellows around the country that still rebuild originals. I have never delt with any of them, but there have been quite a few threads praising Robert Paul, in Yoder, CO His listing in the MAFCA directory is 719-478-5102
There are usually lots of used shocks on eBay, prices are all over the place. Currently there is one listing 4 shocks for $100, "Decent looking condition, stuck, look to be good cores for rebuild." |

Re: Model A shocks
I sold "workable" Ford Shocks (they were from a '34 Ford - but same design but not Model A Style) to Apple Hydraulics 631-369-9515 ... there is value to ones which can be rebuilt; very few old shocks are, however, rebuildable. ... IndyA

Re: Model A shocks
Check around the shaft where it comes out of the cover; if the shaft has equal spacing all around the cover it probable can be rebuilt ; if the shaft is worn it cannot be rebuilt.

Re: Model A shocks
I don't know if anybody here is a member of The Model A Restorers Club, but the membership meet this spring in Ohio is having a seminar on rebuilding shocks. It is one of the last frontiers of restoration for me, so I hope to attend.

He has done the shocks on my 30 Coupe, 29 Roadster, and my 27 Light Delivery. They have been on my A's for several years, still working fine and no leaks Robert Paul does an excellent restoration and is very reasonable in price. I highly recommend him to do your A Shocks. Ron |

Re: Model A shocks
Depends on why they are leaking. Some can be rebuilt some not.

Re: Model A shocks
Define working.
Look up in the service bulletins what Ford gave for specs. With the valve in tight and in a vice using the original lever how long does it take for you to push it from end to end? How hard is it? It should be very very stiff and very slow to move by hand and noticeably easier to move in the opposite direction. I ask becuase I was forced to change my definition of working when I got the specs for the KRW testing tools and found what I was taught as good was not so good. |

Re: Model A shocks
Yes, they are built exactly the same as originals
