Default Trying to identify my generator

Lets try this without a pic first....

I have a later style generator (not the Powerhouse), but it is slightly different than the pictures I have seen, and the generators in other cars at shows.

On my generator, the output terminal is in the front near the pulley, not in the rear near the brushes. Cutoff simply mounts backwards....

It does not have provision for oiling front or rear bearings. It looks identical to a later Model A generator except for the output terminal location.

Is this a Model A generator - or something else?

Pottstown is trying to survive the downturn in economy, but holding in pretty well.

Just had the final car show of the year Saturday night, and turn out was excellent.

And... I was the only A there!!! So we get a lot of attention with the old Roadster.

And yes, Douglasville is a nice area. Things are getting built up now - anywhere that was open land now seems to be a housing development. Still talk of putting the racetrack in back on 724, but have only seen signs so far.

The Autolite style generator had the output terminal near the front until about March 1930. It also has a ball bearing in the rear plate until about March 1930, when it was changed to a bushing. There should be a thin flip cover over the front oil hole. The rear oil hole may be in the center of the plate, or on the top side of the bearing.

Hi Tom - please ignore my "newbieness".

Is the Autolite the style that replaced the Powerhouse?

Yes, it first had the output stud in front and a rear ball bearing, then about March 1930 it had a rear bushing and the output stud moved towards the rear. This is the common long style generator, which also does a good job of meeting the Model A electrical demands. They start charging the battery at about 750 RPM, which is about 500 engine RPM.

You're welcome. Check out this thread from a while back. Check out reply #9 to see the different oil holes.
