Default J. J. Hart ford dealership

Is anyone familiar with the J. J. HART FORD DEALERSHIP of Brooklyn, New York ?
My 1934 Ford was sold there originally (See photo of decal on the cowl).
I have a 1949 post-card from there (See photos). It states that they have 37 years of experience.
I can not find them on GOOGLE.
I wrote them in 1973, looking for history of my FORD. They wrote back, but had no information.
CLICK PHOTOS TO ENLARGE THEM.
ARE THEY STILL AROUND ?

Mike, Have you tried to get a map to the address location on that post card at Google, Yahoo, or Map Quest? Some of these internet websites will allow you to get a satellite picture of that same location. You may be able to get a virtual picture of that same location today. J.M.

The Nov. 1940 issue of the FORD FIELD magazine had an article of several pages long on J.J. Hart's FORD Engine Rebuilding Department as they were the authorized engine rebuilder for Brooklyn at that time, as well as being a Ford dealer They were located at 1095 Atlantic Avenue.
Hope this helps. Lincoln.

My father worked for JJ Hart for over 30 years, they were located at 1095 Atlantic Ave. Brooklyn, NY,the dealership was sold in the early 1970's and became Art- Ley Ford. JJ Hart later opened a Ford dealership in Riverhead, NY. I hope this info is of some help to you.

well, it didn't work right, it takes you to an overhead view. But you can click the sidewalk view on the upper left of the screen and see more.

My grandfather owned JJ Hart Ford. My father moved it out to Riverhead in '73 and kept it open until about '82. He still owns that property in Brooklyn.

I use bing.maps. You can get a "birds eye view" that appears to be taken from a plane at a moderate altitude. In most places, you can rotate the view to see it from all four compass points. Here it is looking north.

Here's a link to the site. Zoom in and go to "birds eye." You can also turn off the labels.

Here is the location of the J.J. Hart Ford dealership decal, placed there in 1934. A close-up can be seen in Post #1. A nicer view can be seen in Post #18.

Don't know if it's the same J.J. Hart, if so, they wound up in Riverhead, N.Y. sometime between '50's & '70's. Not sure of the sequence but the Riverhead dealership had been Lyon Ford, Riverhead Ford, J.J.Hart and somewhere in there Riverhead Ford Linc. Merc. My best friend purchased his 1953 F-100 brand new from them. When the gas prices went to .65 a gal., He yanked out the "whisper quiet V-8" and replaced it with a Mercedes Diesel. Big mistake, it couldn't get out of it's own way.He is deceased but his son still owns it. That '53 is almost perfect except for that Mercedes. His son threatens to put a V-8 back in it someday.

I was wondering about the arm and hand in the picture. Her outfit doesn't leave much to the imagination. Oh, its great that a decendent of J.J. Hart has joined and posted on the Barn.

Here is a copy of a letter in answer to my request, in 1973, to see if J.J. Hart Ford had records of when they had sold my phaeton, forty years previous.
They, probably thought that I was crazy, but I just had to ask.
The President of J.J. Hart Ford, Thomas P, Hart, was nice enough to send me a reply, though.

Grandfather actually... "J.J. Hart... 203 cars sold between July and August. 986 cars sold between January 1st and August. Appointed Dealer since September 18th, 1916."

He was one of the very first Ford dealers.

He started with Ford in 1906 as a mechanic in the NYC headquarters and worked his way up to the head of repairs and testing.

Yes, I should have caught that. That was a remarkable achievement, better than four cars a day and in a country just rising from the Depression.

Do you still have your Grandfather's watch? I see that all 71 attendees received an engraved watch signed by Edsel Ford. Your Grandfater is mentioned in the middle of the front page. Hope this image is readable.

We may have met as children. My dad was a mechanic then a salesman there until the move to Riverhead. He started in the 50s. Worked for your grandfather and your father. I remember the old trailer in the used car lot, and the main showroom. Regards, Bill Nahabedian (Jr.)

Hi. Was taking a trip down memory lane when I found this post about JJ Hart. My Dad bought his first new car from Jack Hart in about 1935; when he cut the deal with Jack, Mr. Hart trusted my Dad to drive the new car home to get the last $50 he needed to pay for the car. After WWII, my Dad opened a taxi company on Long Island and, because Jack Hart had trusted him for that $50, Dad bought all his cabs exclusively from Jack Hart for many years. When I was getting old enough to drive, my Dad took me to JJ Hart [the dealership was still on Atlantic Ave at that time] to see Tom Hart, Jack's son. My Dad proudly said, "Your father sold me my first car and now Jack's son will sell my son his first car." A few minutes later, I was riding in a brand new Mustang.

This is one cool thread. Of all the Ford dealerships there must be in the USA, Mike asks a question on the Barn concerning the pedigree of his Ford and the original dealers grandson has been "riding along" on this site all the time
, whats the chances of that eh?...it's about the same as winning the lottery I'd expect ( I'd like to win the lottery).

Yes, I agree. I miss Mike and reading his posts. Glad I got to meet him at one of the Cigar City FH gatherings in FL. I wanted to stop at his place on another trip to FL but unfortunately that never happened. Lesson learned,...never procrastinate, there are no promises for what tomorrow will bring.
