66 mustang differential
Hi, I am looking for a 9 inch complete diff. for my 66 mustang. I know that a 57 Ford is a direct bolt in, as for wheel spacing etc. Does anyone know if a 1960 Ford is the same as far as the spacing. Help would be appreciated. Thanks, Neil :-) <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |

Re: 66 mustang differential
This site: http://hiqties.hypermart.net/9inch.html#top says that the '60 model is 60 1/4" flange to flange vs. 57 1/4" for the '57-'59 Ford. <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |

Re: 66 mustang differential
The early Broncos are the correct width but the spring perches have to be relocated from the top to the bottom and the axle flanges have to be redrilled to the smaller bolt pattern. I have heard that 28 spline 8" axles will fit into the 9" rears but I've never tried that. <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |

Re: 66 mustang differential
The '66 Mustang was available with the 9" differential. There are several around. Keep looking. The wheel bolt pattern is different. The early fords and most all the 1/2 ton pickups are 5 on 5 1/2", while the '66 Mustang is 5 on 4 1/2" bolt pattern. I am not sure about changing axles, the 9" rear end that was in my '72 1/2 ton Ford 4X4 had 31 spline axles. I know some 9" rear ends have 28 spline axles, but I am not sure about the length and wheel bearing outside diameter. All of the Mustangs that had the Hi-Performance engine came with the 9" rear ends. <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |
