Re: 36 radiator
I believe it's a Modine mfg. radiator.
101 tubes 212 fins 11 1/2 pints capacity. There's probably B5 embossed on the top tank. There were a bunch of running changes made on radiators in '35. I've a large top tank on my Roadster,a spare with a B4 embossed on the top tank. |

Re: 36 radiator
Jacob, a "B5" on a 1936 radiator indicates that the radiator was made by Modine. I have not discovered anything more specific than that. The more detailed specs mentioned by RobR35 are for a 1935 small tank radiator made by Modine.

Re: 36 radiator
Next Question, Does the Modine (B5) radiator take a different cap then others radiators. I have 3 or for different radiator caps some orginal and some after market. I can not get them to fit right.

drill the rivet out, install a rubber gasket the same size as the fiber one. This will seal the cap good. 1/8" thick red rubber from the plumbing section at your hardware store works good. The problem starts with the radiator tubes, when the ID of all the tubes is added together, that open area is smaller then the volume of water from the pumps being dumped in the top tank. This restriction causes the water to back up in the top tank and coolant is lost out the overflow tube. You have heard the expression the water seeks it's own level. This is true but this leaves the 22 quart system with maybe 16 to 18 quarts. Low coolant in the radiator makes the temperature hotter. The restriction makes it necessary to force the coolant through the tubes to provide enough flow to cool the radiator. This causes a slight pressure on the cap causing it to leak. What is required is a working pressure cap if the radiator is made for one or Skip Haney's 3 lb check valve on the bottom of the over flow tube. The pressure cap or valve allows coolant to be forced through the tubes and top tank will remain filled up to the filler neck for over a year. 122 tubes was mentioned by a previous post. Most radiators I checked had 144 tubes. less tubes if they are the same size mean less flow and hotter running engine. G.M.

Re: 36 radiator
The early Ford V8 cars were non-pressurized systems since they all had the open tube to the atmosphere. Skip Haneys valve at near the tube outlet adds about as much pressurization as a 70+ year old radiator can take but it can make all the difference in the world when it helps the coolant system keep temperatures in check.
