Mystery T shaped door handle???
Hey all, it's been awhile. I recently acquired the strange looking t shaped door handle in the center of the photo. The handle to the left is a 28 deck lid handle. The handle to the right is a locking 28-9 door handle. The deck handle to the left fits my 28 business coupe trunk lid perfectly, and the handle to the right fits the passenger door perfectly. So what does the handle in the center fit??? The stem is 2" long, with key # A-1231. The door handle stem to the right is about 1" long. So, what body used a T shaped handle with a 2" stem? Panel truck, sedan delivery? I could find nothing about this in the JS. Any ideas??

Re: Mystery T shaped door handle???
I'd say it is Sedan Delivery. The latch mechanism on the S/D's was mounted on the door ( in other words, protruding into the freight compartment) rather than in the door, and that would require the extra length. Panel was not like that, the latch is inside the door, but maybe those doors had a wider frame.

Re: Mystery T shaped door handle???
If it is plated and has the same face design as the 28 T handle then it is for the rear door of a 130-A 29 deluxe delivery. A hard handle to find. If it is stainless steel then it may be for a 130-B 30-31 for a 30R31 panel delivery. Dick Crabtree has one restored for my deluxe delivery and will purchase/ trade for it on the occasion we can get together and make a deal or I would pm you and ask how much. I don't want to have an extra, so best not to. Rod

Re: Mystery T shaped door handle???
Unfortunately there isn't enough shown in the pic to tell what it is. Is the handle cast or clad like the others? Do the keys from the other two locks slide in that lock cylinder?
It looks to me like a cast reproduction since there is no retaining notch at the end of the shaft to prevent the removal of the locked handle.

Re: Mystery T shaped door handle???
Here's some detailed photos. Handle is clad, not cast, and the base is not cast. A 1231 is clearly stamped on the shaft. Yes, the original deck lid key slides nicely into the 1231 lock. Photos show the notch at end of shaft. To me, this handle is a cross between a deck lid handle and door handle. I should note that after this was nickel plated, the locking mechanism was pinned through the shaft because the upset nibs had been ground off in the disassembly. So 28 sedan delivery rear door? Consensus?

Re: Mystery T shaped door handle???
A-1231 key code is 28 through March 31. Brass Clad Nickel Plated 28/29. T handle is Sedan Delivery. I agree with Alan

Dennis: Is there a Ford key number stamped on the stem? If so, it should start with the prefix of A-xxxx. mike

Re: Mystery T shaped door handle???
Mike: There are no numbers stamped on the stem. I am missing the locking insert. The handle I believe is original to the delivery. The delivery is a mix of 1928 and 1929 parts. Motor is Feb 29. Dennis

I hate to say it but the handle in your pics is nearly identical to the handles on my garage doors except my doors have separate locks.

Re: Mystery T shaped door handle???
I bought an unused stainless clad handle on eBay last year that looks like a 1928 T handle. I like the look and will use it on my '30 Roadster trunk lid. It has a Rockford key, and a tapped shaft end, wonder if it is a garage door item. I'll post a photo tomorrow. Bob

Re: Mystery T shaped door handle???
There is more than one Model "A" out there with the "look alike" garage door handle.
