Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
I would mess with the timing & see if you get any relief. I would start with advancing a small amount first.

Bob, folks,
Seems the radiator frothing has gone away. Have not played with the timing. Regards, Chris and Cheryl

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Folks,
Played with timing. Still can't get this fairly simple procedure to work out right. Got close. Had to adjust the fine tuning adjustment on the back of the distributor. May have got it back to be as good as when I started. John and I took a ride to his brother s place to see his new garage for his very nice 1957 chev nomad! It will be a nice shop and storage for his car. The 32 ran ok but I think I improved it a little more when we got home. Put the spare on the truck for the shows coming up. To bad it restricts the passenger side entrance. Cheryl is not going to like that! Regards, Chris and Cheryl

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Folks,
Still learning here. Took another run at the timing of the 1932 vintage "B" engine. Re-read the instructions using the test light. Realized I was trying to turn the light on and off , opening and closing the points, with the cam lobe screw tight. Loosened that and the rest worked well! Took the dump for a 5 mile run and it preformed as well as a 90 year old Ford should. Regards, Chris and Cheryl

A lot of my work is based on your help and guidance! I appreciate that very much! Great to have a mentor when things don't go as planned! The nice original horn is working very well! Occasionally it needs a sharp rap, to get the armature off the dead spot, and moving again, about like me! Hope we can have lunch at the hotel one day while in Dearborn! Not as nice as your engine bay work. But now I'm glad I own a 32 to be part of that era! It sure has grown on me over the last couple years. Thanks to all the Ford Barn folks that have helped get the ragged ol' truck out in the daylight. I think we have met most of the criteria that I hoped would happen. In my opinion I am done with the truck! Sounds kind of weird since its not going to get a full restoration. But that was my goal to keep it in its work clothes and most folks seem to appreciate the look. We plan to drive to shows with 30 miles or so, put out the lawn chairs and visit with folks about their old cars too! Regards, Chris and Cheryl

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Chris, glad to hear that you have found the source of your anti freeze troubles. I would assume that you will want some type of anti freeze protection since you drive your truck more or less year round. There are many options, of course. Here is a link to an interesting thread on one man's experiments with foam producing anti freeze that might be helpful to you. https://forums.aaca.org/topic/375509...omment-2339788 As for your statement that you are "done" with your truck, I would guess that the BB will see things differently as time goes on. It's just the nature of old things. Steve

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Steve, Folks,
Your probably right there will always be something to work on or improve on the ragged ol' truck. Thanks for that link on the foaming of antifreeze. I would like to run antifreeze even though the truck will be in the garage in the winter. But things can happen and I sure would not want this diamond block "B" cracked, do to the garage door being open when its a zero degree day! I am going to find some Zerex Valvoline G05 as tested in the link. Will get back to you on that one. Regards, Chris and Cheryl

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Hey Chris . . . great job! I love the truck just the way it is and you're having fun driving it. The new engine sounds like it is really running well - and is reliable, so all that is good news. Take care, enjoy the Spring/Summer!

Enjoy your truck. Drive it often and when your able, give folks a ride. They'll love it and you'll be a great ambassador for the Early V8 Ford hobby.

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Dale, Seth, Steve S., Folks
Well John was near NAPA when he called me this morning. I had just taken a picture of Zerex antifreeze and remembered that NAPA might have some. John brought me a gallon. Drained the water and added the (non foaming Valvoline). Started the engine and other than the starter switch sticking on the initial test, all went fine. If the weather breaks I will get it out on the road for a test run. I would like to get a new starter cable assembly. Regards, Chris

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Chris,
Let's plan on that in June in Dearborn. Which starter cable do you need, the non-electrical one that controls the switch and is attached to the steering column bracket on the other end of the cable or the electrical one that runs from the battery to starter? |

David, folks,
The non electric starter pull knob and wire from dash to starter switch. Rain here again today. Shop time on indoor projects! Regards, Chris

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Folks,
Light rain again today which has stopped. Will probably not be taking the 32 dump truck to the local car show only two miles from home? Might go slowly, which is standard operating procedure in the truck anyway. If it starts to rain on us we can head home and the 32 will get some of the 70 year old dust rinsed off? I did take a 5 mile ride in the truck yesterday and the Zerex coolant mix did not foam out the top of the radiator. We may have a winner, thanks to Steve S. and the guys that did the home testing for reduced foaming. Regards, Chris and Cheryl

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Found this original 1934 full-page ad on eBay and bought it. Just the ad without the magazine, I hate it with people cutup old magazines. I'm going to frame it for garage art. I wanted a '34 dump truck like your 1932, gave up looking and I bought a 1934 long wheelbase stake-bed. Maybe someday I'll have one of each and go into the vintage construction business. I love your truck just the way it is. This was a large format magazine, 10 3/4" x 13 3/4" its too big for my scanner so I took photos of it. It would make a great poster.

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Flathead fever,
Reading the article makes me want to run out and buy one! Good article! That would be a Garwood bed on that 34. Having driven mine several hundred miles empty. It would be totally different hauling a load of gravel! That's what they were built for! WORK! Thanks for posting this. There is a truck out there that was for sale a while ago. Let me know, I could try to dig up the guys name and phone number. Regards, Chris and Cheryl

Flathead,
Good news! The guy that had the 34 dump, says its sold, but the guy has a 34 flat bed he may sell? I will get the info for you, because it looks like you need something else to work on! Just trying to help out here! Regards, Chris and Cheryl

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck
Ford Folks,
Since we only get 6 or 7 days of spring/summer here in Albion (Well it feels that way sometimes) We have to pack everything into those, so not as much time to get on here and chat. (Was good to be resting on page 4 of the Barn!) Cheryl and I took the 32 to the ice cream shop in town last night. It preformed well and pulled the two hills in high gear on the way home! I do have a problem with sealing the gas tank cap. Is there a new good seal out there somewhere?? Gas gage is not functioning properly again. Not sure I will make another run at checking/ getting the King Sealy hydrostatic gage functioning again? Working on yard and garden, eating well and probably consuming a few extra adult frosty beverages along the way too! Trying to help John a little with his fleet of 1940 Ford cars too. And have the Allis CA tractor in paint striping mode! Hope things are good in Ford land! Regards, Chris
