36 engine Ford authorized reconditioner data tag
I recently purchased a restored 36 with a V-8 that has a brass data tag on the engine just below the oil sending unit-see picture. The vehicle originally came from the Kansas City area so it makes sense. Questions: how common or rare is this to find? Since it says "Reconditioner" I'm assuming Ford had some authorized contract companies do the rebuild on their engines. Did Ford coordinate this-would there be any history or records available from Ford archives on what work may have been done to it ? There is no date on the tag-any idea of when these services may have been done? The engine runs great-very strong oil pressure and is stock. Maybe this is a David G question for the history? Any feedback or comments is appreciated. Thanks Fordbarners!

Re: 36 engine Ford authorized reconditioner data tag
Those "rebuild" data tags are common. There were "many" rebuild suppliers and I am sure "most" were not "factory" authorized. I have seen a few of the tags that list all of the "rebuild stats" on them and then there are some like yours. I think "Sears/Allstate" listed the rebuild stats on their tags?? I would not think any records exist on your particular engine, for what need on Ford's part would that be important?? AND how much man power and space would be needed to keep track with such information - "worldwide" mind you!!!

Re: 36 engine Ford authorized reconditioner data tag
When I bought my '36 5 win in Sept 52, which I still own, the odometer showed 52 K, the engine was a Ford Meyers-Welseh with a blue ribbon tag on the left head near the cowl.

Re: 36 engine Ford authorized reconditioner data tag
I read awhile back where Ford through their dealers had a rebuild exchange program for $49 . Here is a French Ford Factory rebuild V8 engine tag.

Re: 36 engine Ford authorized reconditioner data tag
Ford had a program for authorized rebuilders at least well into the 1960s and starting in 1934 offered the service itself. Engines with tags like in the first photo and otherwise are not uncommon and if any records were kept at the time of the work being performed, it would have been at the rebuilder, not at Ford, unless Ford performed the work. Either way, beyond any warranty period, there would be little reason to retain those records.
