Many of us grew up in an era when these old Fords were cheap transportation and few bothered with restoration. The collectors sought out original low mileage cars and maintained them as original (a neighbor's 36 coupe with 18,000 miles comes to mind). The rest of the old Fords typically had a variety of modifications but otherwise appeared stock. Think of them as stock-mod and they were very common then.

I don't know about you but I mostly buy after market parts for my daily drivers today and since I learned to drive in 1970 and try not to buy parts from the dealers unless there are no after market available. Couldn't have been different before 1970?

conrad restomods was coined by barrett jackson because they didn`t know there was already names like hot rod, street rod, restoRod because they dont bother to read rod mags and their ignorance is deplorable but when novices watch that show they think that is the proper terminolgy. i have never heard that word "restoMod before that show was on tv and i have been doing this for 55yrs, conrad your 32 3w is beautiful and i would never change anything on it or in it. absolutely a perfect stance that is achieved by few. now since i am ranting, what about the word "pickers"
another tv word. we always called them scroungers. fot fod

The first time I heard the term Resto-Mod was in a Street Rodder magazine about 15 or more years ago. It was a 32 Ford Tudor. It was "restored" but with a small block ford and automatic with a 8" rear. They put a dropped axle in front with disc brakes and had white wall radials. It looked really nice. Not a hot rod really, neither a street rod.

Everything is a function of degree. If you resto-mod too much, you might even become a pro-touring classification.

Guys can't even agree on definitions of the following terms:
1. Survivor
2. Restored
3. Rebuilt
4. Reconditioned
5. Original
6. Rust-free
7. Barn find
8. Mint condition
9. Etc., etc.,
