Spider Hubcap replacement

Anyone know of a source for the full wheel spider hub caps for a '36? The one on the left front abandoned ship and headed for parts unknown yesterday.

It happened, of course, while I was in a gaggle of traffic so it was impossible to get pulled over immediately to go look for it. I finally got to walk back, but it was nowhere to be seen.

The standard vendor catalogs don't show that style, just the ones with the solid black cover.

Spider Hubcaps definitely dress up these old Fords with the Wide Five bolt Pattern. This one is for 1936.

Put a claim in to your Ins Co. I lost one coming back from Rynbeck several yrs ago, herd it leave and never could find it. Yes Bill Hirch has them and are very good quality.

Does anyone have some advice to prevent them from coming off? I'd hate to have this happen very often, and makes me afraid to run them on a daily basis.

These seemed to fit on the clips tightly, I'm almost afraid to bang on them hard enough to seat on the wheel.

If your clips are good, then the caps weren't "banged on" hard enough.
I had that problem with my '39. I found that when they feel tight, sometimes, there is another 1/4 inch to go to seat them on the wheel properly.

Try using a plastic wire tie around the "spokes" of the wheel and hubcap, two wire ties for each wheel (on opposite sides).
On mine these are hard to see and the hubcaps have not come loose.

I ended up buying a new one from Bill Hirsch. Talked to Ed, on Hirsch's staff, about it and he shipped me an exact duplicate of my other caps. Somewhat pricey, but nice quality. Great service from Ed. Recommended.

John, When you get the cap centered, hold it with one hand and slam the center with the palm of the other hand. You definitely need to seat the cap securely, and this is the best way to do it, not with a tool.

For removal, make yourself a small slide hammer with a hook on the end. You can use this slide to tap one or several spokes, gently loosening from the clips. No damage, and complete control, preventing the cap from falling on the ground.
