Default 8BA to Ford E40D transmission

I have been looking for a conversion kit to mount a 1980 Ford E40D transmission to my 8BA FH. I can find plenty to C4, Chevy turbo, and s10-T5. Does anyone make this conversion kit?

thanks,

Is the bellhousing part of the case or unbolts like a C4?. At one time we had a hotrod with a 49 mercury motor bolted to a chevy 350 turbo and it used a mopar starter. No idea who made it , if it was custom made or a store bought set up.

The E40D was first used in 1989, are you sure it isn't an AOD? The E40D was essentially in the C6 category, way overkill for a flathead.

Here's a guy who put a 4R70W into a truck with a flathead:

I'm going off the information from the owner of the truck. It is a 1980 model with the 300-6cylinder. It is being parted out as the cab and bed are totally eat up with cancer. It looks more like the C6 transmission from what pictures I can find this morning. It is a 3 speed automatic.

The guy that owns the truck is going to count the number of bolts holding the pan on the bottom and number of bolts to engine.

A big thank you to Ross F-1, and 40 cpe for the thread link it was a big help.

My next question anyone on here mate a C6 to 8ba? The transmission is local and value priced. I'm good with welder and cutting torch and the transmission mount I can fabricate.

Rather than trying to re-invent the wheel and compounding the troubles in life, by using an electronic controlled trans, (E40D trans) use the C4 which is a very friendly unit behind a flat-head engine.. I know several guys that have used the C4 in their '30 model cars with great success..

One thing you may want to consider is that a C-6 type transmission takes about twice as much horsepower to operate as a C-4 type automatic transmission (AOD type). The figures I've always heard were approximately 25 horsepower vs. 50. That's a huge difference.

Thanks guys, for all the input. Right after I brought the truck home I decided to keep it as I purchased except for converting to automatic transmission. I have want ads running locally, and keep checking daily for C4, or AOD. I just have not run across one yet.

The response is very much appreciated, more than you know.

No salvage yards or transmission shops near by?

C4 is the simplest, but you might as well step up to an automatic overdrive while you're at it. The E4OD is big and heavy. It was even used behind Ford Diesels in pickups and vans. The AOD would be the one to use (the non-electronic version). I believe adaptor kits are made for it.

Yes, kits are available. Just do an online search.

It's going in my 39 Ford Pickup behind the 8ba engine that came installed.

No salvage yards close, locals are crushing cars faster than you can pull any parts off.
