sump removal
Recently removed the oil pan but undoing the four bolts at the front was difficult as the motor was slightly ahead of the cross member.....I recall reading sometime back that sometimes motors do creep forward, but my question is ;how does this come about ,given that the motor is fixed to the frame.? any thoughts would be appreciated..

Re: sump removal
Hmmm, never heard that before. Those bolts will come out with a wrench or swivel socket.

Re: sump removal
I've used a 1/4" drive socket with the thin extensions that work with them to reach up in that narrow space by the cross member.

Re: sump removal
I too have had the motor move forward. I blame the float a motor mounts because they are not as rigid as the stock mounts. I used a thin wall socket to get in there.

Me too, 1/4" drive and a swivel socket. Original style motor mounts.

Re: sump removal
Just because you can get the bolts out with the swivel socket does not mean the pan will come off. I have seen this issue with original mounts too. We made a jack screw that fits into the crank guide and pushes on the pulley nut. Loosen the mount screws and push the motor back.
