Our 33 5 window coupe. I have had this 33 for several years. Its a nice solid car and drives very nice.I did put a overdrive in it. Its in the driveshaft.I have a Columbia for it and hope to put it in this winter. The top is solid that someone years ago did. I have most of the trim for it if I ever deside to put it back to original.I did find the correct radio for it and it workd pretty good.I wish it had a trunk lid instead of the rumble seat.My wife like to take half the house when we go on tour.I need to get it out and drive it.

Re: Please post pictures of 1933-1934's here
Hi Spider, I bought the blue '32 from a guy who had owned it for 50 years, it was his high school car in the late '50s in eastern Tennessee. It's got a 59AB, '39 trans, '48 brakes, and a '41 Columbia 2 speed rear.
The green '33 5W was last registered in El Toro, CA, in 1953, to a Marine who had been given the car by his father, the original owner, so the story goes. It's been in storage a long time and I'm in the process of getting it back on the road now. It still has the same '40 engine, '36 trans, '40 brakes that it's had since sometime prior to '53. The black '34 3W was last registered in 1963 in N. Dakota. It was found and taken to California in the mid to late 1960s and remained there until about 10 years ago. I bought it from a collector in the northeast. It's mostly original and pretty untouched except for the engine, still a 21 stud, though. Last edited by Randy; 11-15-2010 at 10:20 PM. |

I have owned my 34 5 window coupe for five years. It was a rust free original all metal car. I performed a full restoration on it three years ago, which required no replacement of floors or panels.

I saw this sedan at Frankenmuth a few years ago. According to the new owner it was a barn find and had an Olds engine. The three window was parked just a few feet away. But didn't get to talk to the owner.

Re: Please post pictures of 1933-1934's here
I found this 34 in 1972 as a crude early hot rod that was rust free and all steel. I rebuilt in 1974 frame off as a resto rod appearing stock inside and out except for tires. I have both stocker Fords and a couple rods. 34's are #1 in my heart forever. 40 Fords are a very close second.

Two real steel cabriolets, one just as Henry built it and the other a street rod. Neither are trailer queens.

I've only owned one Flathead, 1934 Pickup. Bought it in 1957, stored in 1971, and restored in 2009. Still have the same beauty riding with me. Byron.

Here are two of my '34 Fordors. The first, a 59 K repainted original Deluxe, was sold twelve years ago in a moment of weakness, the second is a 36 K repainted original standard Fordor that I have repainted Coach Maroon and Black since the picture was taken. I am now assembling the car. Gar Williams

Used to be mine, needed business capital a few years ago and had to sell it, now all I own is the pictures and the memories! It is a '33 Standard, very rare, I've tried to buy it back but no luck. Randy

Re: Please post pictures of 1933-1934's here
Yes, Coach Maroon with Vermillion Stripe was a correct color scheme for 1933.
Standard vehicles had black wheels or color by special order and a Deluxe with this color scheme would have had Aurora Red wheels or optional black. In 1933, fenders, fender aprons, taillamp brackets, and spare tire cover were black. One thing incorrect on this car was that, as a Standard, the windshield stanchions and frame should have been painted black and the top material should have been black. I've attached a picture of a different car that is a restored, black '33 Standard roadster with the correct black windshield frame, stanchions and top. Last edited by Randy; 01-29-2011 at 12:07 AM. |

Here's an unrestored standard phaeton with a repro chrome windshield frame but still with the black stanchions. It is supposedly the phaeton used in a 3 Stooges movie. Last edited by Randy; 01-29-2011 at 04:08 PM. |

I'll try to post my 33 Cabriolet
Hey, it worked. Anyway, it is all steel and original no repop fenders etc. It took 10 years of love/hate for me to fight this one to the finish. The only work done with my checkbook is: Upholstry, wiring, and side windows. Last edited by Ziffer; 01-29-2011 at 05:15 PM. |

Nice work! I like them stock, but that's a great looking Cabriolet! I really like the chop and the top, plus admire the work you put into the door glass frames! Great looking color combo as well.

It was an interesting car with a bar in the back seat, lots of horns, and lots of clearance lights bolted to the front fenders, like a Cuban or South American taxi. It also had folding windshield stanchions that were an accessory item for '33-'34, but I'm not sure if these were those or if they were homemade. You can see them in the pictures. Dad remembers being confronted by a few really excited secret service agents when he drove in the gate, apparently Lady Bird had forgot to tell them Dad was coming that day. Shortly after his trip, he received a letter from her, signed and on her letterhead, thanking him for his estimate and informing him that she could not afford to restore the car at that time. He's got the letter framed in his office. I guess she must have finally come into some money, because it looks like it has at least a coat of fresh paint, or maybe our tax dollars paid for it when the Ranch was turned over the Park Service. I know he couldn't have not got the job due to the estimate being too high, because he told me that every car he ever did from a bid, was way underbid! Later on, Dad was involved in the restoration of a 1964 Lincoln 4 door convertible, formerly owned by LBJ, but in the possession of an Austin investor. The story was that LBJ used to like hunting on the Ranch out of his vehicles and, if the top happened to be up when he found some worthy prey, he would take his knife out and cut a hole in the top so he could stand up and shoot from the back seat, no doubt to impress visitors and foreign dignitaries. Here are some scans of some polaroids that Dad took when he was out there. That's his orange 1980's Good Times Van in the background of the second picture. I almost forgot, the notches on either side of the bar were for hunting rifles!

Re: Please post pictures of 1933-1934's here
Hi all
I'm new (to this forum anyway) but my cars are old. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Anni The 1934 Ford Fordor Deluxe I built with my husband. The Fordor has a Heidts IRS and Mustang II front end and a Corvette LS1 engine. The other one is a 1934 5 window coupe which we're building this winter. These pics show the car like it was a few months ago. At the moment it's got no paint whatsoever on it but that's about to change in the coming weeks. The third 1934 Ford (although not featured in this lot) I've only bought a week or so back so there's more to come |

No, I had not seen these photos, but I knew that L.B. Johnson had a '34 Phaeton. There is a "LIFE" magazine that has an article about LBJ and there is a photo of him, in the car. Years ago, a friend of mine, John Norris, of Bristol, Tenn. and I were trying to register all 1933-34 Ford Phaetons. I wrote a letter to LBJ about registering his phaeton, but he died, about a week after I wrote to him. I never heard back from anybody. Thanks for posting this. I really enjoyed it. MIKE |

Thank You. The color is a metalic, depending on the sunlight it is either dark maroon or dark brown. Originally when it was painted in the early '60's I think it was more of a copper color. I don't have any plans on changing it.

Here's my 1934 Cabriolet.
I'd assume it was manufactured in early 1934 because the door garnish mouldings are the '33 type and the door opening handle is at the very front end of the door. |

[/IMG]I have had my '34 Ford 5W Deluxe for 7 years now. It was "hot rodded" back in the 70's and still the same nothing changed except had to replace the Radiator last fall.....blew at the seams. The paint has held up pretty darn good considering it was done close to 40 years ago. Seats springs need to be replaced soon, feels like riding on a "prune box" on these "pot hole" roads around this area.

After seeing so many beautiful roadsters, cabriolets and coupes I was hesitant to post my humble 33 RHD model B Tudor. But I love my car! so here she is. A couple of pictures when I found it in a shop where she was parked 30 years ago, taken back in June 2011, and a few current ones getting ready for primer.

Re: Please post pictures of 1933-1934's here
All you guys and gals with '33s and '34s are very lucky people in my estimation. A '34 3-window has been my dream for at least twenty years but I had to switch to motorcycles ten years ago because I could no longer afford to play with cars. But I dearly love and enjoy my bikes, so it's not like I'm suffering too badly. Maybe one of the 10 or 12 lottery tickets a year that I buy will be a winner and then I'll be able to afford building my dream car! Ha-ha!
My congratulations to you owners and thanks for the pictures. W.E. |

This 34 3-W just came out of a 26 year sleep in a storage garage with lots of collected dust. Was next to the project cars in my avatar picture until last week. Too many GM projects in the past and want to get back to the early Fords.

Here is my "garage find".
Painted a couple of times, interior original, 47 canadian 59ab and has not been on plates since early `60 ies. Spare tire carrier removed from the right side front fender. Saved from a "ZZ Top" 3 W fiberglass Hot Rod build in the `80 ies. |

Although some of you on here may not like it, here is my 34 roadster I've been working on. Has a 59AB with a Merc crank, 39 trans, 1935-1936 3.54 gears machined to fit the 34 rear and early 40's juice brakes.

This was the last beater,.....
I started on a new 33' beater for myself with a little more attitude,... If I had them, I would like to put the stock door hinges back on it...... But I'm building it for myself,... soooo the chances of me finding enough time to finish it is pretty darn slim..... This is how it's been sitting for the last 14 months in the barn. (ah,.. without the coffee on the cowl and the other mesc. junk on the hood.) Here it is on the trailer going from the garage over to the barn,..... (where it has sat ignored.

I had this 34' Vicky about 10 years ago,... it came out of West Virgina, I brought the entire thing home in the back of a pick up truck,.... all apart. Got it up and rolling,... A few things came up and I ended up selling it to a guy on the west coast.

Here's my 34 3 window that I bought a couple of years ago - previous owner had it for 38 years. Plans are for a cleanup and get it back together, but two other projects ahead in line so the 3 window will have to wait its turn.

Post 258, and post 143 (page 8), are the same car, separated by a couple years. It's currently getting pretty close to heading for a paint job, maybe after the roadster show.

Thanks deuce-roadster the car is complete and has been shown already. I am just putting pictures out there to help anyone in the process and to show it takes patience and a few shillings. I am also having trouble submitting the after pictures? Something about security and I can't fix it with a wrench, drill or tap so I'm lost. Maybe later!

Re: Please post pictures of 1933-1934's here
This is my summer wheels and it coming out of that little garage in Sonora CA Dec 2010 for the first time in MANY years . Cleaned the primer off it to reveal worn-aged original paint and NO OLD BODYWORK !!! Had 3 NOS rear coupe fenders so the pair that had been scuffed and primed went on it after cleaning the primer off . Gennie Ford - not Fostoria and my NOS RH runningboard went on it also . First time on a car for all 3 parts . Board is scratched up some from being on a shelf forever but still looks good and it is for sure real . The guy wearing the old Steelers jersey is yours truly .

Have you replaced the rear end with one from 1935 or later? Wondering why the rear sits so far forward! DD

Thanks and it sure gets a lot of phones pointed at it driving it around . The leave it alone comments beat the paint it comments about 3-1 . Definitely going with the majority on that one . Probably dreaming but a NOS LH runningboard with shelf wear would finish it off . David J

This is my 1934 3 Window, created thus far from parts collecting from near and far. The rough rebuild is virtually complete. The actual restoration phase will be well underway by spring.

DD, you're right, I think the rear spring was put on backwards at one point which puts the rear end too far forward. Doug.

One other possibility......IF the car was changed-over from a 4-cylinder to a V8, or some such scenario, a 4-cylinder torque tube and driveshaft are shorter than the V8 parts. If they were not swapped for the longer V8 parts, bolting the torque tube to the transmission mount would pull the rear assembly forward. If that is a possibility in this case, we have dimensions for the 4-cylinder and V8 torque tubes so that you could measure yours. DD |

Kirt [ son ] did not remember but the right rear tire was smoked to the cords and the left was almost new . Matching tires . Well the tranny was blown up with first gear and the cluster missing many teeth so someone was not nice to it . Didn't hurt the tranny case though and that was good as it matches the title and frame . I do not know who sprayed the primer on it but it was not thick so it was easier to remove . He [ Dad ] eventually bought a 1940 Ford so the 33 got stuck In that tiny garage and did not see daylight till Dec 2010 . In the gravesite pic notice how well the door was timbered and bolted shut . It took 3 guys a half hour to get it open including cutting down a couple trees . Kirt inherited the car in 2000 and when we pulled it out he said that was the first time he saw that car outside . Kirt and his wife deserve honorable mention as I had paid some down but I still had two envelopes full of $100 bills that I gave to his wife when we started loading the car . She sat in their pickup and counted it and there were 2 $100 bills too many . SHE GAVE THEM BACK !!!!!! How many folks would do that nowdays ? He also gave me many spare parts with it . I have kept them up to speed on getting it back on the road [ spring 2011 ] and what has happened with it . GOOD PEOPLE and thanks again guys if you read this . First pic is Kirt on the left and me on the right grinning like a buffoon . Got to take some pics of one of the more famous 34 4d's in Verdi Nevada on the way . Lots of handling damage on it besides the MANY bullet holes but still a very interesting 34 . Dave Last edited by David J; 01-02-2016 at 12:47 PM. Reason: add pics |

Bought my coupe out of someone's back yard in 1972. It has taken me 45 years, off and on, to complete it with the majority of work completed by myself. The photo with the fender skirts was taken about a year ago before I had assembled the lights and bumper. Love the Art Deco look with the wind deflectors and skirts. Also added is one of the hard to find accessories for the car. One of my favorite Ford body styles!

Bought my pickup in '69 and drove it to high school and had '51 Merc and juice brakes. Restored it back to stock in 2009. Best part now is I can drive it on "nice days" .

Here's my classy Mom with her brand new 1934 Ford. That was when a new car was something to be proud of.
Second picture is the same Ford in an Iowa blizzard 2-21-1937. I'll bet it started and Pop drove it to work that day. |

Current project...34 5w. Future projects...rust free 33 sedan, 34 sedan that was boxed up in a barn in 63 that I pulled out about 3 years ago, and a nice 33 5w that was torn down in the 70's but never finished. I bought it from the original owner's son. Unfortunately, I'll probably have to sell one of the sedans in the near future...too many projects!

Great pictures, any of you have a early 33? I need a side pix of front frame horn. Need to see where bumper bracket holes were drilled, early 33s had smaller spacing in brackets, thanks

maybe you have 1932 bumper parts on your very early 33? I once saw 32 motor mounts and water inlets on a very early 33

Well, if you look REALLY, REALLY hard and squint your eyes, you MIGHT perceive that the rear of the hood sits about 1/8th of an inch low at the belt line............MAYBE! Or, it COULD just be ME! Absolutely gorgeous car, nevertheless!! DD

Hey V8COOPMAN I was just jacking with you! Actually I am like you are I go around the house straightening up lamp shades and pictures too. Wire runs on the underside of the dash must be lined up. But it is a nice car.

Hey Brad.....You've been keeping this pretty "low-key" for some time now, and I must say that remembering how this car started-out quite a few years back, it has turned-out BEAUTIFULLY! I always remembered you because of Gonzales. I used to drive through Gonzales going back and forth between New Orleans and Houston 50 years ago, before I-10 was finished between N.O. and Baton Rouge. I'm loving that coupe! Looks like Excelsior radials you have there? If so, you will love them! Color is gorgeous!! DD |

I bought my Pickup in 1959, B/W photo is at my girlfriends house for lunch, and I am wearing my H J Heinz laboratory clothes, in Leamington Ontario.
Colour picture, after a 10 year resfeshing. We are still married, and drive "Merlot", during the driving season. Byron W.

Re: Please post pictures of 1933-1934's here
Thanks V8Coopman!
It took me 8yrs but I finally got it on the road last October! I knew nothing about these old Fords and not much about cars in general when I started but thanks to this forum and the HAMB and the Early Ford V8 Club 1933-34 Ford book I had all the info I needed. I made some mistakes and going back there are some things I would do differently but over all I am happy with it and am enjoying the heck out of driving it. The interior is going in starting next week. It currently has some of an old Lebarron Bonney kit that’s been eaten up by moths. I did put Excelsiors on it and I like them a lot. Here’s a picture of when I picked it up from my grandfather’s house in Missouri in 2012. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

As off the assy line, but '38 gearbox, incl pitted-to-the-steel Tacoma Cream; 1 Duncan Blue patchy peeling repaint. the original 'matching-grill-condition' V8 emblem w/screws in the glovebox . . .(?) thx.
(replc'd top insert when?) Now hyd brks, mechanical linkage still w/car. '38 gearbox. Thank You. Last edited by highbeams; 01-17-2024 at 11:58 PM. Reason: gearbox info. |
