Default 1947 Ford Radio Installation?

I can't seem to be able to install the radio on my 1947 Ford. It's the same radio I removed about 6 months ago - and I have not removed the speaker.

Here's the problem: The end of the speaker hits the top of the radio when I try to position the radio toward the dash opening. I see the indent in the top of the radio where the end of the speaker should fit, but I can't move the radio forward enough to get the speaker into the indent.

What am I missing - any hints? This is the strangest problem I've had putting this car back together. Thanks.

If you remove the speaker, can you get the speaker in after the radio is installed?

If it's the correct radio and speaker as was removed installation should be no problem. Lift the radio up into the location behind the dash but keep it at a sharp angle ,front end up and into dash cutout. Continue bringing the radio up in back and keeping the front in the dash cutout. The speaker bottom should fit right into the top depression of the radio case. Once in position install the 2 hanger rods and wingnuts. Then attach the rear support arm and hook up wires. I'll admit that being a 3 armed monkey would help. I can remove and reinstall mine in the '46 in a matter of minutes. Hope this helps.

I know this is a very old post, but I cant find anywhere in the web where the brackets of the radio originally were installed

I bought an original radio and my Ford Coupe does not have the original brakets anywhere underneath the dash.
Thanks

Look under the dash to the sides of the front cutout for the radio . On each side there should be a tab with a hole in it for the rods that hold the radio end hook to. Sorry I can't post a photo, but unless they were removed, there should be tabs on each side of the radio opening on the inside of the dash.

Actually, those battery holder rods are exactly what I used. I just had to chase the threads a little deeper with a die and then had to trim the length off a bit. Cheap alternative.

Peewee, I sure wish I had those instructions earlier. I looked on the web extensively and never could find anything like that.
Thanks for posting.
