Pulley input

I need some more good Barn experience, made special tool worked like a charm to remove ratchet nut, pulley was about to give up. How does the piece with notches in it come off of the crank. Is there a key way. Some one in the past has had a pipe wrench on it. I can cut it off with torch but don't want to put that much heat there.

if the engine is still in the car you are going to need to jack the front of the engine up as far as you can. there is sort of a key way, there is a notch on the other end that uses the key for the timing gear. I have never seen one with a grove war in it like that, but that might work to your advantage. if you could find a clamp on bearing puller and by using the grove clamp it on there and use a regular puller pull it off. if you need a picture of the bearing puller let me know. YES on that puller recommendation above.

Harbor Freight (the Shadetree Mechanic's friend) sells a bunch of pullers in various sizes for small money that could be ground down on the fingers and fit that groove.



A direct pull to the right in that pix should pull it out. You might help the removal by removing both the oil pan and the engine front cover: by doing so you'll see the keyway and the small slot in the sleeve mentioned above.

Frequently water gets between the sleeve and the crank and rusts the two together. With the pan/cover off you can tap on the sleeve as you alternately rotate the engine and break some of this rust bond.

Heh. On one my engines (the AA basketcase) someone drilled the sleeve and put a crosswise bolt through both crank and sleeve.

I'd use a sharp cold chisel & a Big hammer, just chisel a notch, from front to back, & it'll probably just about fall off!

Lucked out just got it off. Hammered it back toward motor and saw it move. large vise-grips slid right off. What two piece pulley would you'll recommend. again thanks for all of the help. And this is therapy? If I wouldn't work on it in bed.
