Re: float a motor question
How much more noticeable is the engine vibration without the float-a-motors?
Thanks, Doug

Re: float a motor question
floata motor mounts require a lot of experimentation and tinkering to get them to work right, get them to tight and you will get viberation like the original mounts, to loose and you will get chatter, but they do work if you can get them set up right

Re: float a motor question
I "THINK," the rear rubber is just there to prevent the cast iron hook on the rear of trans from possibly going "BOINK" on the crossmember. BillW.

Only the early cars had that hook you are talking about. The picture looks like a 30/31 pickup and shouldn't have that hook... |

Re: float a motor question
truck is a late 31 as story goes, truck was smooth,no gear noise drove very nice, low miles truck but had float a motors rear sides, and the 1 at ujoint, original front, sent to bodyshop had painted and what few dents had removed,my friend the body man we had a deal he could work on mine when his time allowed so it was there close to a year but looks great when we went to pick it up clutch was very grabby, drove around some did not get better, getting ready to pull clutch out and replace,I wanted to go with original motor mounts anyway, a ford barner sent me a set of rear mounts and ordered rubber parts for them, installed, wow smooth as a new ford and has same clutch

Re: float a motor question
Ford 1,
About 18 months ago, I had the engine from my 31 Tudor out for some work and when we put it back in, I used new rubber pads and new bolts on the original style engine mounts. As I recall, I really tightened them down as tight as I could get them! Since then I seem to have more vibration than before the engine came out; for instance vibration in rear-view mirror that wasn't there before! Reading your post on this thread from last night makes me wonder if I tightened the bolts on the rear engine mounts too tight, thus causing what seems like more vibration than before. Any thoughts on this? Thanks! Evan Lewis |

Re: float a motor question
I've said before, I don't know everything, if so, I probably couldn't remember it all, except for one cute readhead with the cutest butt in High School, 58 years ago! Bad Bill W.
