Default 1932 Rear Axle Shaft Length (V8 vs. 4 cyl.)

Good afternoon,

Are there any differences between the '32 V8 and '32 4 cylinder rear axle shafts. The shafts in my V8 unit are marginal and I have a donor 4 cylinder unit that I can pull from.

Thanks!

Do they both have the round or scalloped banjo torque tube flange? The round will not interchange with the scalloped.

To put it another way, if your V8 rear axle assembly and four-cylinder rear axle assembly both have straddle-mounted pinion gears (late production) or both have pinion gears without a rear bearing (early and mid-year production), the axle shafts are interchangeable. Otherwise, they are not interchangeable.

Thanks for the info. These are not interchangeable.

Would you gents happen to know the length of a V8 axle shaft? I have a few loose shafts but I'm not quite sure that they fit.

You should understand that the difference is NOT 4-cylinder versus V8. The difference is dependent upon the shape of the flange where the torque tube bolts to the banjo CENTER Section. Early center sections had a ROUND flange. Late center sections had a SCALLOPED flange. DD

EARLY, ROUND Flange BELOW.

LATE, SCALLOPED Flange BELOW.

The round flange banjo rear overall length of the axle is 32.09" overall length & 24Tooth
The late 32,33-34 scalloped banjo flange axle is 32.18" overall length & 18 tooth.

Thanks for the info. I have a late axle with the scalloped flange that has some filing marks on the axle taper. This may clean up with a little lapping. I have a good early axle with the round flange that I was hoping I could pull.from. Thanks again for the info.
