Default Current cost of Model A transport

Has anyone had a Model A shipped lately? I live on the west coast and the car is on the east coast. Who would you recommend?
Any idea of current cost in light of the price of fuel? Thanks, Bill

Check with Jim - Trulyvintage, I cant Quote cost from east to west. He recently transported my fordor from Georgia to Maryland, paid unloaded miles from Alabama to georgia with a total cost of 900 on an enclosed trailer. Very fair pricing, you wont meet a nicer guy. Wouldn't trust anyone else, JMHO....

I had one transported in January from Wake Forest N.C. to Kentucky. Not hardly as far a trip as what you're looking at. The guy was very professional, insured and stuck to the date, time and pricing he quoted. He charged me $ 1.25 per round trip mile. I don't know if that was high or not, but I was satisfied. His name was Mike Renn. Phone# 252-438-4762

$1.25 per mile seems to be the going rate for enclosed transport. I just shipped a car several states away and paid $1.24 per mile to have it shipped via Reliable Carriers. The car did not run and there was no additional winch fee or non opp fee. These guys didn't charge any empty trailer or unloaded fees either.

Bill,
In January, I had one shipped from Los A to sacramento and the guy/cost was really reasonable THEN!
Problem is 'lately'. Gas in lalaland is well over $4 here, for regular, and no where near that in January...and going up daily So don't think that you will get real time price without current research. That being said, I use 'U Ship' for competitive quotes. They can do any fashion you like and get best prices, IMO.

Check out putting a listing on uShip. See the link in my signature.

You list what you want shipped there for free. You get to pick and choose and screen the drivers and consider their bids. You can avoid brokers (you don't know who will actually ship the car) and deal directly with the guys that drive the truck. Stay in contact with them on the road. I've done it twice now with great success. If you don't like any of the quotes you get, you can decline them all. Nothing lost.

There are a few that ship here on the Barn and one on ahooga (can I say that here) who posts on the swap site regularly. I believe all have good reputations. Another place to ck is the HAMB. They're car guys.

There's nothing wrong with Uship, but they ARE a broker. They WILL charge you a fee. Been there-done that. ($80. fee).

If you want open, post it on uship.com If you want enclosed, try the big 3, Passport Transport, Intercity Lines or Reliable, coast to coast should run about 80 cents or less a mile enclosed!

I had a car brought from Los Angeles to North Carolina on an open trailer for $900. I found the guy in Hemmings but don't have his name handy, had the car in less than a week. I now use this site to get cars moved. http://centraldispatch.com/

Bill Cal, I just looked at uship and they have an Estimating Shipping cost area. You just put in the beginning and arrival zip codes, plus a few other questions and get an estimated cost.

Steve,

Thanks .....

I posted on your Rolls Royce thread over on the AACA,
sorry some of thiose guys are being ......... difficult
to a guy trying to help a friend ....

Call me - I have an idea or two that might help

Regarding transport:

Best way to go is enclosed transport - same truck and trailer
with same driver and no deposit

There is a waiting list of vehicles for legitimate transport
which is not broker quotes out of California and the West Coast

At the end of the day, with #2 diesel averaging $4.25 a gallon
and continuing to rise - so will legitimate transport cost

Try BenD over on the HAMB-I haven't used him, but he has a great reputation. And, there are lots of transporters listed in Hemming's. Ask for references.

Bill,

Do you want your Model A to arrive in the condition it left in ?

Do you want to pay a deposit ?

How long to you want to wait ?

Once you have answered these questions,
sit down and calculate the loaded miles from the pick up
zip code to the drop off zip code.

Double that mileage.

That is how far you would have to drive to pick up
your Model A.

Calculate the actual cost this would be.

Use that amount as a benchmark to evaluate
transport pricing that you get.

I am on the road just about every day,
I calculate transport cost by factoring in:

Vehicle

Pick up and drop off zip codes

Timeframe to transport

The vehicle owner provides this information
and I supply a cost based on those factors.

California & the West Coast - Florida - Denver - Salt Lake City
Wisconsin - Minnesota - Texas

These locations have more vehicle transport demand going out
than coming in - that means unloaded miles are involved to get there
to be able to pick up and continue to the drop off location.

These locations are more difficult to schedule actual transport
out of because the demand for loads going in is far less.

I break down the unloaded miles and the loaded miles.

I get as close as possible with scheduled transport to a
pick up location - the unloaded miles from there are paid
for by the vehicle owner at a lower rate.

In my opinion, enclosed transport that reflects the actual
cost of #2 diesel fuel and the operation of equipment is
the only way to go ........

Of course there is always this road you can take ......

Good Luck,

Jim

I had my 29 CCPU hauled from Placerville, California to me in the Detroit area and it was 1000.00, open transport.

That's about the same price I paid to ship my PU from San Diego to Anchorage a couple years ago.
