Model B Carb
I am having my engine rebuilt and it has a Model B carb on it. I am looking for a air cleaner that fits the B carb. It has a larger intake than the regular Zenith carb for A's. I located one from a supplier but it is a tall stack type and I want one like the Air Maze's that are sold. Any idea's??

Re: Model B Carb
Synders,or Brattons sell a "U" shape fitting that puts the filter underneath the carb.
I think it comes either A or B size. JB |

Re: Model B Carb
Unless your B carb is pressure balanced, I think adding the restriction of an air filter will screw up your running mixture and you will not be happy. Your plugs will foul and your MPG will go down.
If your carb is pressure balanced, you can make a filter mount for a stock Air Maze type filter with a 2" copper "street elbow" used in plumbing (not cheap). The larger side of the elbow goes on the carb, the smaller end fits perfectly on the air maze top. I got this idea from someone else on the FB (I forget who or I would give them credit). The elbow, as you buy it, will be too long on both runners (compared to the original air maze elbow). You can cut the excess off with a band saw or put it in a lathe and cut it off very cleanly. The larger end needs to have 8 slots cut in it so that a hose clamp can squeeze the copper down against the cast iron B carb inlet to hold it tightly. If you bead blast the copper and paint it with dull aluminum paint, it looks like the aluminum elbow that the air maze normally mounts with. Sorry, I don't have a picture of mine handy. I suppose you could join 2 such elbows and put one of the larger K&N-type permanent mesh filters under the carb. Even without a pressure balanced carb, it would probably run OK. I prefer the look of the original air maze filter. I know it only filters out the big bugs!

Re: Model B Carb
I have the K&N under the carburetor. I have not noticed any difference in how the engine runs. I feel a lot better on dirt roads knowing I'm not sucking dirt into my new engine.

Re: Model B Carb
As long as your GAV control "best setting" is in the normal range, you do not need a pressure-balanced carburetor.
