Default Engine noise

I have picked up a rattle/knock in the water pump area. Any experience out there with this?

Take off the fan belt and see if it goes away. If so, it is the water pump. If not, it is the crankshaft pulley (or something else).

Sounds like the fan came loose on the water pump shaft

Are you using a leak less water pump? If so, the brass packing nut is not supposed to be tightened. Sometimes they tighten by themselves, causing the impeller to rub against the inlet housing. Back off on the packing nut and see if the noise goes away.
