Default 1942 car radio?

I have an NOS radio head from Motorola that says it is for a 42 ford, but will fit others. The knobs and buttons are maroon, which is correct for 42. The problem is I have never seen another like it. It looks completely different than a 41 and it doesn't look like any 46-48 I've ever seen. Mine has seperate buttons instead of the large clear pieces for the stations. Any idea what I actually have? I'm not sure how to post pictures yet either.
Thanks
Matt

Nice 42. Love the engine setup. Are they covers over the original heads?

The dial of the 42 is convex. Not flat

I also have a NOS radio head like that you describe. I think it must have been a non-factory, after-market option available for '42 and up fords. Whilst I haven't actually tried mine in the dash, it looks like it would fit.

I thought I might modify mine to operate an MP3 player or a later model AM/FM - CD player unless I can find the correct radio to go with the head unit. Does anyone have a photo of the correct radio to go with this?
