Default gas cut off valve

whats the easiest way to remove and replace the packing from the gas cut off valve located on the bottom of the gas tank? I have a very slight leak.

My opinion...drain the tank and remove the shutoff valve. Then you can take the valve to the bench and work on it without standing on your head, and worrying about gasoline dripping all over you. Make sure you have plenty of ventilation in your shop...fumes + ignition source = BOOM!

Of course, you may be able to just tighten up the packing nut under the valve handle....have you tried that? Be careful and don't break the valve off at the tank...!

Hope this helps...

Be sure to disconnect the battery before doing anything with the fuel line.....

Gasoline + ignition source (ie: sparks from still hooked up battery) = BOOM!

Yes...disconnect your battery. Good safety precaution.

Are you certain that the leaking is coming from the shut-off valve itself. Sometimes there's a leak at the spot where the valve is screwed into the tank. If so, use Permatex #2 to seal the joint. This usually works well.
